Is this Normal?

16 years ago 0 3541 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Tammatt, everything you feel is normal, normal for you. Try not to dwell on the sadness, the feeling of missing something, or on whether someone else understands. Concentrate on your reasons for quitting, the gift you're giving yourself & the positive things that will be added to your life because you are a non-smoker. There is no up-side to smoking. You know that, you have to remind yourself of it often in these first few days. Take good care of yourself, reward yourself for the hard thing you're doing & get through this first part one day at a time. Yes. It is normal. I used exactly the same words myself. It is amazing how quickly you forget to miss the cigarettes and the being a non-smoker feel good factor takes over. Honest. Tammatt, it does get easier with every day, and soon you will be amazed at your confidence level. I am still amazed at how much more calm and relaxed I am now! Focus on the future, close the door to smoking behind you and you will be there! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 182 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,550 Amount Saved: $1,920.10 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 6 Mins: 13 Seconds: 21

Lainey...Thank you for the words of wisdom! And yes, this site has been a blessing! The people that post here are from all walks of life, but have one thing in common and that is compassion and honestly wanting to help other people. As for my husband, he is very supportive but he has never been addicted to anything, let alone nicotine, he just doesn't have a clue :) Mercy...what you said about being in your "smoking skin" really hit home. It has the only thing that I have known for soooo long. I just have reinvent myself and think of other things to do besides smoke when reacting to emotions. Doodles... THANK YOU for the words of encouragement! I see that you are 8 days smoke free... please tell me it's easier on the 7 day than the first! haha It's been 49 hours (aug 31,8pm) without any nicotine. One day at a time!! Hey Tammatt! Tell your Hubby that smoking is a real addiction,(with real withdrawals to go thru) harder to kick than heroine, which is why we do get a bit testy the first week or two. My hubby was the same way, He quit on a bet New Years Eve 32 years ago and never looked back, and thought it worked that way for everyone. NOT. It is tougher for us women, we're much more emotional to start with, throw a few hormones in the mix and well....guys don't get it.. You are in great company on this site, as you have noticed! you can get thru anything now! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 181 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,525 Amount Saved: $1,909.55 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 4 Mins: 27 Seconds: 18

Tam, When I sold my first house I had owned I felt so bad. Two weeks into living in my new house if someone asked me how I felt about my old place I would have responded..."What house?" That's what's it's like being in our new "non-smoking skin". We are familiar and attached to the smoking person. When the new non-smoking one is created and someone asks you if you miss your old smoking friend....your gonna say...."Miss what friend?" Hand in there. It is normal. mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 224 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,480 Amount Saved: $1,001.28 Life Gained: Days: 29 Hrs: 11 Mins: 5 Seconds: 38

Thank you too all for the quick responses. Lainey, I have been reading the older posts and see there is a wealth of information! Rusty,You have explained it perfectly. I am never without them. What a great idea about a good-bye letter, thanks for the tip! I have learned so much from reading the posts and seeing that people who are exactly like me have quit! There is HOPE. It is so hard for my family to understand the addiction of smoking. My parents and siblings have never smoked. My husband has never had one touch his lips. He doesn't understand why I don't "just quit" lol. That's when I use to tell him to try to "just stop breathing" and see how easy it is. One day at a time. I will be victorious!
