I heart the SSC....

I've been reminiscing back in the old posts of 2004 when I was very early in my quit and remembering what fun the fight was back then - yes, fun! You may find that hard to believe but it was - anyone still around will know what 31st July 2004 meant to me - there was a whole thread devoted to it! That day really was my epiphany - my "Truly Magical Day". Those 2004 threads are nostalgic to me and it's a shame that they cannot be bumped properly because you'd see the same discussions, same varying opinions, same disputes, same determination, same vulnerability, same hope, same despair, same tears, same joy and the same unrequited help that we see today, just different names. The SSC goes on and on and I for one am indebted to it. My quit is etched in its very ethos; I owe and I will repay. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/18/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1192 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 23,840 Amount Saved: 5,960.00 Life Gained: Days: 191 Hrs: 10 Mins: 31 Seconds: 42

For me too it is the people here. You encouraged me to keep with the quit where in the past I would have quietly fallen by the wayside. There is also a good balance of newbies and oldies. This I think is essential to the running of SSC. Although smoking may be a distant memory they still come and write and make the SSC part of their daily life. I learn something new every time I am here. I also get the chance to help extreme strugglers, no matter where in the world they are. I get to let them know they are no alone and it can be done, no matter the odds. I've probably stated this before but there is no harm in stating it again. For that I heart the SSC. Happy 100th Unhooked! As most people know... I was here a few years ago and made it to 120 days. It took three years for me to try again, but when I decided that the time had come, I knew I had to come back here. I knew that this place offered me something that I really needed in order to be successful. And what is that? Each of you. The SSC has been so much more than a place to quit smoking for me. It is the place that I met wonderful people that taught me that I could do anything if only I would try. They also taught me that I am not alone in anything I feel, there isn't anything wrong with me, others feel the way I do, and that I am an intelligent person worthy of love and a smoke free life. Prior to quitting, I didn't have relationships with others. I merely sat on my back deck, bitter and angry with the world, and smoked away any free time I had. My new life began here. This is where my soul searching; life changing experience began. I use to say all the time that I knew I could quit smoking because God gave me all of you wonderful people to help me. It was meant to be. :) I am forever indebted to the SSC. The SSC has been wonderful for me. It gives me a place to go when I feel strong and a place to go when I feel weak. When I first posted I was totally not expecting to get as many replies as I did. I still have to pinch myself when I think about going around the world with people who have one thing in common with me. Not smoking. The support is unwavering. So many my age that have struggled just like me and they are cheering me on. So many younger who still have a chance for thier bodies to completely heal. Tomorrow is 50 days without smoking for me. I've never been this far before. Just having a place to go for reinforcement has made a big difference for me. The SSC has been and continues to be a blessing for me. I asked for everybody's stories about the SSC has or still helps them stay quit, for my 100th annu present. But we got carried away with the partying & didn't really get that done. So, I would like to hear everyone's story. I'll start The SSC has and still helps my quit in so many ways: By finally getting it through my cement head that nicotine addiction is a REAL addiciton and all of its symptoms have to be dealt with before it can be beaten. By showing me that quitting is not deprivation, it is a gift and the first step on the road to myself. By always being here and always standing between me and the convenience store, you know, where they keep the unmentionables. By allowing me to give back to so many, so often. By continuing to give me reasons to stay quit in the form of successful longtimers who still come back to share their experience and wisdom. OK, who else?
