Sue, you beat me to it and are quite correct (chuffed = pleased, happy, delighted). Chuff is also the puffing sound of a steam engine and to move around while emitting such sounds; it could possibly be interpreted that being chuffed meant that I was doing something with a cigarette!!!! I must really be careful with my language and try to use more international English. Unhooked, what I was trying to say was that I am delighted I have managed to get through the first week. Lainey, I do hope you have got through the night. Teeth can be very painful things, especially when they are pulled out. I wish you a speedy recovery. Tom, thanks for the encouragement. You are doing great Pol! Stick around! There's a lot to learn here. Funny I found this thread just now....I was just at the Dentist today to check out a tooth that got infected while I was on vacation, and broke another Saturday! Turns out she pulled them both! OUCH! I haven't had a tooth pulled in over twenty years, and I am not as brave as I used to be. The freezing has just come out now and the pain killers could be working better....its gonna be a long night! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 170 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,250 Amount Saved: $1,793.50 Life Gained: Days: 20 Hrs: 20 Mins: 30 Seconds: 11

It is now a week since I sat in the dentist's chair and things are still going ok. It is not always easy battling with the mind but the battles don't last too long. I am kinda getting used to the disturbed sleep and I guess rising early has its benefits! I feel really chuffed to have got to the end of the 1st week and just need to keep following the path. Pol The loss of bone on a dental xray is a very strong motivator. I had a similar experience and also proceeded along this road following a conference with a dentist...Keep up the good pace, you can do this, alot of it is a mind game, and once you realize that and find ways to overcome your own ingrained behaviour, this will get easier... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 240 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,200 Amount Saved: $1,680.00 Life Gained: Days: 43 Hrs: 21 Mins: 2 Seconds: 45

Greger, the post you did this morning at 8:55am is one of the most powerful posts I have read yet. You wrapped it up and tied it with a bow and it packs a punch. Excellent job. I want to copy it and whip it out whenever I or anybody else gets weak. Excellent job and thank you! Pol, No problems at all, things were back to normal at work today, three smokers trying to hide their smoking from me, it really doesn't bother me! They think I am dying for a cigarette. I'm not! I got bored and went to buy some supplies and realized they thought I was going out to sneak one, NO WAY! They are simply projecting their fear of life without smoking onto me. I'm actually kind of enjoying the whole thing. I found a half a can of Skoal in my camera case today, tossed it in the trash without so much as a thought of taking a dip. Any other quit I woulda cheated, not this one, I'm over it. Once the little addiction demon is dead I'm just gonna shoot the junkie and be done with it. YIPPEEE I"M A NON SMOKER!!! Greger, good to hear from you. Sorry to hear about your dental problems. I am lucky that my oral health has come off lightly considering I was a smoker and the recent deterioration was enough for me to say enough is enough. It is perhaps relatively easy to ignore the signs of smoking that you can't see, but I could see my gums starting to recede and I felt so ashamed of the staining. Whilst I have been able to ignore the probable internal damage to my body, I couldn't ignore what I could see. So that was it, no more smokes without a second thought (I did find this rather alarming). As you say, the difficulty now is remaining stopped. It has almost been too easy so far and I am waiting to be caught out by the junkie. I keep reminding myself of the postive steps I have already taken and remember that I just need to continue on the pathway and be prepared for the hazzards that I will encounter along the way. In the meantime I am just keeping busy and giving myself little treats at the end of the day. How are you getting on, have you had any problems yet?
