I Fell :(

Cherie, Read John's story again. It brought a picture that isn't pretty. You quit does have to be for you. All the excuses in the world mean nothing when you are lying on a bed dying of cancer. You know as well as the rest of us that smoking kills. You also know what the freedom feels like. When your desire to quit outweights your desire to smoke, you will quit. I hope that time is soon. I'm here for you either way. Sending you big hugs. I know how disappointed you are in yourself. Don't give up though. It doesn't matter how many times you fall. What really matters is that you get back up. You strengthen my resolve for not one puff. My hand is here whenever you are ready. You know I'm here and that I care. Oh gosh Cheri, This is bad cause every time you slip makes it harder to quit (or so I am told). You are a smart woman, but why not take a step back and reflect on what happened. Maybe you feel smoking isn't as bad as you once thought? I would recommend you review some videos on quitting smoking to see what happens to smokers. It's not a pretty sight. Then I would suggest you be honest with yourself, decide if you really are ready to quit now and write down those reason. Last time I quit, I fell about 45 days later. I then prepared for this quit for almost 2 years. (yeah kind of slow) First everyone telling me to quit: My Doctor, My Dentist My Mom My Sister My friends My lab tech Friends ..... the list goes on but you get the point. Then my reasons to quit: THIS IS WHY SUE AND I ARE HERE TODAY: Sue's cat dieing from believe it or not, lung cancer. Sue and I watched him after 18 years of a healthy life begin to struggle for air. It got to the point where he didn't have enough breath to make it from our bedroom to the food bowl. Then he would just lay behind the Web server here to get the heat from the fans. This got progressively worse at a very fast rate. When I looked into his eyes, I have seen that look before. It is difficult to explain but I could see that he was scared. He didn't know what was wrong and why he couldn't breath so well. I could also tell he did not want me to worry as he would purr and lick me when I would lie on the floor next to him for hours on end. It started getting to the point where he was beginning to be uncomfortable and gasping without moving much. We realized it's time to take him to in. The vet said you know what needs to be done, but has to be our decision. I knew that with all the technology out there that there must be an alternative! I asked for an X-Ray. If you saw what Sue and I saw when the vet came in with the X-Ray you too would be in horror. Over 90% of his lungs were loaded with cancer. We know he had a full life but wondered how he could have died from lung cancer, we didn't smoke in the house! That is when we realized. God knew his time was due and made it so it would help me and Sue be determined to quit smoking. We stayed in the room and he stared right into our eyes as he went to sleep. It was the saddest thing I have ever seen in my life. You know sometimes pets are harder to let go then humans because of their innocence. I then turned to Sue and said, I don't want either one of us to have to go through this. Will you quit smoking with me. She said, if you are serious I will, but once I quit there is no going back. Joyful, please reset your counter with a new quit date and get on train. The counters integrity is helpful for those of us trying to know where you are at in your quit. It should represent the last time you smoked even if only one puff. Not resetting it does not hurt us but you. Loosing it's integrity will no longer give you the feeling of pride when you look at it. Remember, with quitting smoking the important thing is that you don't have a single puff cause it resets the cravings. If I had one puff I would reset my counter all the way back. It is not to count every day in my life I have been smoke free but the consecutive days since the last time I have smoked. This is for the craving factor. Sorry to disappoint everyone especially myself. But it's only a temporary set back. I'm hoping to quit again tomorrow,,,well it's already tomorrow so I'll say later today. I have no doubt that I will quit for good one of these times! There's nothing anyone could have done to stop me. It has to be me that stops me, for good. Just breathe.........cough cough :( My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/9/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 36 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 720 Amount Saved: $172.80 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 12 Mins: 41 Seconds: 38
