I'll add my little thought dump here.
Every time you smoke in a certain situation, you're starting a neural pathway in your brain. These don't actually last long. However the more you do it, the more it becomes a long lasting pathway. Its still in your short term memory at the moment.
Keep doing this however, and it becomes a permanent neural pathway and hence transfers to the long term part of your brain.
For example, say you started smoking in the pub and nowhere else, and continued to do this for a long time. Now, for you pubs and smoking are connected within your brain.
One of the processes of quitting is disconnecting these neural pathways, by constantly performing a healthy routine. What in effect happens is that your replacing an old 'bad habit' permanent association in your brain with a good one.
Thats my thoughts on it anyway. Hence, by writing here every time I crave I am replacing a bad habit pathway with a good one.
