I don't think anyone "should" smoke but I don't think everyone should quit right now either, although I'd like it if they did.
Smoking is not the same as eating too much salt or chocolate, to me. Those things don't harm anyone around you for starters and while the problems they cause are not minor, they pale in comparison to the health risks and the societal toll smoking takes.
There is never a "good" time to quit as most of us know but I believe there is a "right" time. Some if us seize that moment and turn it into the last quit and the best thing we ever did. Others watch it pass by as they watch their life pass by, in a cloud of numbing smoke.
"Should" those people smoke? I don't think so but it only matters what they think & I don't know what that is for sure. I think it might be a case, at least sometimes, of "why does the caged bird sing?" It's all they know and they are afraid of freedom & everything that goes with it.
Anyone can quit, anyone can get through the stress & anxiety and moods, especially with all the help that's available now. If someone chooses to smoke in the face of all that, either their right time hasn't come, they are afraid of their true self, or they're passively suicidal. I don't think it's because they "should" smoke.
