Hello Garry, What fantastic news!!! I'm happy for you. My advice is to keep a quit journal. The skills you used to get this far are the strongest and very important to you later. Write it all down to remind yourself how you did it when the memories are fuzzy down the road. Welcome aboard and you're doing it! Throw garage sale dishes at trees (big ones that can handle the pain) - do ANYTHING but take a puff. This is doable. But it takes not smoking (duh) and then, when you get that first whiff of freedom, that joy of non-addiction, that pride of accomplishment, you will wonder why you waited so long! Best wishes. Hi and welcome, Garry You're doing great! Are you using any aids, such as patch, chantix, gum? I think reviewing your reasons for quitting is helpful when you have a crave. Also playing a game with the craves; identifying what triggered it, using some self-talk to combat it, congratulating yourself each time you don't smoke in response to it. After a while the craves become predictable to certain situations/times of day, so you can prepare for them, or just notice them and move on. And drinking ice cold water...and exercise...and pampering yourself. This is a big undertaking, you have to be nice to yourself. And using the program tools, like the workbook, and reading and posting here. Any particular topic you'd like more info about? Let us know, and we'll bump a post up for you. okay, everybody, don't laugh..I'm trying to be helpful (I tend to bump a lot of threads up) Keep in touch, Garry. We'll help you any way we can. Just remember Not One Puff Ever and you'll do fine -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 123 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,920 Amount Saved: $836.40 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 5 Mins: 27 Seconds: 39

Welcome, You already have a jump start.....5 days is AWESOME!! Stay busy the next few days. I would spend LOTS of time just reading back posts. Read..read..all the time. Learn all you can about cigarettes. It just doesn't give you cancer. It does a whole host of other really nasty things to the body. Infact... the way you feel right now is because of the nasty things it has done to you. They all gave you great advice. I would add that sour things seem to help....and when the going gets tough and your brain is feeling fried....watch a movie. It is a great distraction and gives your brain a needed rest to think of something else. hang in there. And.... give yourself a reward. You deserve it.
