Emotional wreck!

16 years ago 0 2039 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Sam, Now aren't you glad this is only TEMPORARY!!!! You sound more normal than you could possibly know. Been there, done that, and I fully expect it over the next few weeks. Do whatever it takes, just don't smoke! Laugh, scream, cry, perhaps watch a couple of good movies! CSI and Law & Order are one of my best coping techniques! And there are plenty of episodes on every single day. Hang in there! It only gets better. Have a good one, Cheers, Jan :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/24/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 40 Seconds: 17

Hey Sam and Blue Clouds.. Yes, this is very normal, and yes - you're going to survive, and so will all the people aorund you that you yell at. LOL You don't have to just hang on and go for a roller coaster ride though. I have two recomendations. For One, more reward. Reward is important because it helps with seratonin production and use in your brain.. something that smoking used to do. Do whatever it is that will make you feel good! A nap, a hot bath, a hot fudge sundae, a new outfit, a walk in the park, a long distance call to your best firend? Just do it for yourself - you deserve it. The second thing is to spend some time doing some reading in here and doing searches for past thread about these things, and ask questions.. educate yourselves. Know what's expected of you, and what's to be expected of your adiction and the quit. No two quits are the same, so you won't have the same stuff that everyone else does, but at least you'll have some idea. Some places out there tell you over and over that the nicotine will all be out of your body in 5 days and then you are free. ... If it was that easy then we'd all have quit a long time ago.. nobody REALLY enjoys it, no matter how much they claim to. You're doing a wonderful job! Sam, I did the exact same thing and it was right around the time I joined SSC. I was SO mad too because I was a good two weeks into my quit and thought things should be getting better not worse. I was angry (for NO reason), then I felt bad that I had gotten angry and started to cry. For two nights in a row when my husband got home from work I just cried all night and basically just told him over and over that there is no way I could do this anymore. There was no magic cure or moment when I realized that I felt "better". I guess just over time it became less intense. Because of what we are going through when we quit, it is "normal". I do not have any great ideas of how to get passed that point, just be patient and like everyone else here has said it will pass, just part of the process. Keep going because you have already made it SO far. Sam& Blue Cloud. I just broke down and sobbed like crazy for about two days and then it was over. This is part of the healing process and totally normal. Once it's over you will feel so good, refreshed and clean. You both are doing great! Just hang tight it won't last forever. Hey Sam,(((hugs))), I've been the same way. Can't keep from crying in front of my kids and grandkids. Makes me feel very weak. I too am an emotional wreck. I am addicted to nicotine. I smoked 46 years. I know it is going to take time to re-program my intire body and soul. Withdrawals are not fun. Addiction is not fun. I just keep telling myself that I am willing to trade discomfort today for a chance at a better life in the future. I have to believe this can happen if we just don't take one more puff. We (you & I) are very new at this. We must be patience and we must not feel sorry for ourselves. This quit is for me. I am the one who don't want to smoke and I'm the only one to decide this. I wont let nicotine control my thoughts and actions!!!!cry if you must it releives pressure. Laugh if you can, it produces dopamine for a feel good feeling.Make yourself laugh, go ahead, try it.HEEHee My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/4/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 18 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 360 Amount Saved: $72.00 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 11 Mins: 44 Seconds: 24

Hi Sam, I so know where you are (or were when you made this post)... We have been hiding behind the sharp and powerful walls of addiction and those walls have kept our coping skills to a bare minimum... I always refer to this quit journey as a powerful and amazing Awakening, and part of that journey is about truly waking up, meaning facing some REAL feelings, some REAL emotions. Stay in the moment (that is where the real power is!) and go to yoiur distractions, ask for support, and surround yourself with the people and things you love, my friend. You can do this! Hi Sam, Poor thing. I remember those days, the worst part for me was crying at work. I was in a very no-nonsense job at the time and there were a few times that sobbing just came out of the blue. It reminds me of Tom Hanks in the movie a League of Their Own, "There's no crying in BASEBALL!" But there IS crying in quitting. Rest assured that you are doing all the right things. You are reaching out for help, getting out, moving around and taking care of yourself. Let those tears fall where they may and just keep going. It will even out and your body will be the better for it. You've already added over a day back in your life gained, so even if you spend an entire 24 hours crying - you haven't lost anything ;) All the best My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1081 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 21,620 Amount Saved: $4,864.50 Life Gained: Days: 82 Hrs: 13 Mins: 16 Seconds: 7

Sam Hang in there, it will pass...We have all used nicotine as a kind of emotional shield for a long time. When it is no longer there, we know it. The best thing to do is distract yourself, and create an environment in which you feel safe and at ease. This is not a time for you to be in unfamiliar places. Also drink lots and lots of water...Most of us are dehydrated in any case as we do not drink enough water on a regular basis. I cannot tell you the physiology of it, but there is a relationship between drinking water and knocking back craves... Stay well, this will pass and when it does you will be so glad that you made the journey... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 209 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,270 Amount Saved: $1,463.00 Life Gained: Days: 38 Hrs: 5 Mins: 17 Seconds: 44
