The following quote is the most often used in bits and pieces, here and there but none the less interesting in the whole. Duffis
No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friends or thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee. John Donne
My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 837 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 25,110 Amount Saved: $2,511.00 Life Gained: Days: 181 Hrs: 11 Mins: 59 Seconds: 2

Thanks Bob, a very positive post from Mr Disney and one all here should be aware of! When you've made the decision to quit, do not waiver or let weakness of confidence spread doubt in your minds, do not become wishy-washy, remain positive and when you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionably. Any heights may be scaled with the right mindset. Thanks again Bob, I like this one! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/18/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1105 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 22,100 Amount Saved: 5,525.00 Life Gained: Days: 177 Hrs: 12 Mins: 50 Seconds: 15

In our efforts to beat the nicotine addiction, we face many challenges as our life styles, thinking, and habits change. Along the way we begin to develop a resolve that will lead us to success. There is indeed so much help along the way, not just here at the SSC but the world at large if we seek it. I post some different things from time to time and when I run across something that I feel will assist this forum in self awareness I grab on to it and share. Here is a quote from a source that may surprise you. Duffis Somehow I can't believe that there are any heights that can't be scaled by a man who knows the secrets of making dreams come true. This special secret - curiosity, confidence, courage, and constancy, and the greatest of all is confidence. When you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionably. Walt Disney Duffis My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 834 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 25,020 Amount Saved: $2,502.00 Life Gained: Days: 180 Hrs: 18 Mins: 48 Seconds: 10

So true! Thanks Bob for sharing this great quote! I think that this relates to the quit in that in the beginning, or even when we were smokers, we blamed the tobacco companies for our smoking... or the friends who made us smoke. Then, we realize that we ourselves were the ones who CHOSE to start smoking. And finally, we realize that it's not about blame. Blame doesn't belong anywhere in the quit process. To me, quitting is about forgiveness. We have to forgive ourselves, and let go of blame entirely, before we can finally be happy as ex-smokers. Just my take on the quote. Crave the Quit! That was interesting for me....i wondered when epictetus lived..and how to spell his name..lol Seems to me that way back in those "greece as center of all that was happening on earth" days, the education was well-rounded....covered factual knowledge, ethics, physical growth, art, and maybe more? These days formal education seems to mainly focus on acquiring, retaining, and manipulating factual knowledge. Which is good, but I think we often suffer because as socieities we don't value or revere the other "stuff" The awareness that we are responsible for what happens....to each of us individually as well as how we affect the greater sphere. I think that most of us have had to get that education on our own, I just wish it was more a global priority. I think how wonderful things could be..because I believe in love as the root of all. Here in SSC, we seem to have a taste of it all..the factual knowledge, the struggle with the acknowlegement of personal responsibility, and also the realization that sometimes, "**** happens" and it isn't helpful to blame anyone, better just to go on. Rambling.... -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 67 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,680 Amount Saved: $455.60 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 8 Mins: 41 Seconds: 45
