I'm not so great at writing inspirational pieces, but I just checked in, and saw all the posts from all the people here struggling and sweating and swearing and screaming and trying with everything you've got just to get through the next five minutes without a smoke...and wondering if this h*** will ever get better. I just wanted to tell you that it does. It does get a lot better. I'm not completely out of the woods myself -- 100+ days is what I've got. But I can see the sky. I'm beginning to taste the freedom. And it is glorious. Do I ever want to have a cigarette? Sure! Usually once or twice a day. But I just say no and the want goes away. Sometimes I have to say No a little louder. And on rare occasions, I have a huge, roaring, powerful "NO!" that sends that little junkie in me scurrying back to whatever little hole it lives in these days. You see, I've given my NO a lot of exercise over the past few months. And every time you say NO your NO gets stronger and your junkie gets weaker. Each time you say NO, relish it. Enjoy it. Your NO is getting stronger every minute you don't smoke. Speaking of exercise, you should see what I can do now! I can bicycle, run, lift...I am stronger, faster, more enduring than I have ever been before. Believe it or not, I think better! I'm less distracted by that constant need to smoke. There's more blood going to my brain. It's working better. This is the most wonderful feeling in the world, this freedom from the addiction that was killing me. As I sit and write this, I have tears of joy going down my face, I am so thankful to have had this chance to be healthy again. And I want EVERY SINGLE PERSON READING THIS MESSAGE to get to the point where they have this feeling too. You can. You will. Just keep saying no. It will get better.
