Windy, You are so right. Being positive ...or chosing to be negative is a "learned behavior". It can become a habit to look at life either way. If being positive is more fun...why not put the energy in being positive. I wonder if mental thoughts produce good/bad chemicals in the brain? I bet they do. I also wonder if the good chemicals is an antidote to the cigarette craves? Windy, I'm with you on this one too! I have been told over and over to be thankful for what I have and not complain about what could have been. That is a hard lesson to learn, when you are giving up things you think you need to be happy (cigarettes, men, material things) We never want to loose anything, WRONG``It is great to loose some things. Like that nasty smell of cigarettes, that nasty cough in the morning, that negative put down by someone who is supposed to love you,all the things that you hear that make you think you can't be strong enough to beat an addiction or get away from the things that started the addiction to begin with.I had a lot to loose and most of it has turned out to a gain. Freedom from smoking ,extra money, don't listen to put downs or negative comments. BOY,DID I EVER USE THIS SPACE TO VENT!!! Now I like this post. Sucked it right out your brain :eg: ? That must have hurt. Well I am going to blow it right back into your brain, hows that? Windy you are one of the most upbeat people I know. You give so much of yourself to the people here and the ones you work with and the ones you love. Yes you have your moments, don't we all. I remember the first time I realized where my negative thoughts came from. I was about 1 1/2 to 2 years sober and I was home for a visit. All of sudden my mom was talking and it was nothing but negative words. OMG, what an eye opener. From that day forward I have tried to find the postive in most situations. Being around negitive people can be deadly. It only takes seconds and you are right there in their play ground. I choose to focus on the good and I want to be around positive energy. So when there are diffucult times I look at them as an opportuity to learn and grow. When I say my prayers at night I thank Him for the good and bad in my day. With out both I could not grow as a human being. Guess enough is enough. (((HUGS))) Keep the Quit Sparky My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/30/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 74 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 740 Amount Saved: $222.00 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 1 Mins: 41 Seconds: 37

I am so with you two. I can't believe what a difference a positive attitude makes to quitting. It's like carylne said, "have a happy quit". I almost can't help but take that positiveness (word??) into the rest of my life. Patly because I'm happier & I feel better so things look more positive anyway. But also because if being positive can make it easier to quit smoking, what else can it do?? As far as toxic or negative people go, I say f 'em if they can't take a joke! I just don't spend time with them. Ain't that the truth Windy! I was in a great mood this am when I got to work and this coworker just beak, beak, beak all day! He finally left two hours ago and its taken me this long to recover...negativity begetts negativity....or toxic people I guess they are. But yes, I'd rather be sunny side up anyday, it just makes life better all around! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 130 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,250 Amount Saved: $1,371.50 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 22 Mins: 58 Seconds: 34

You know...I used to think I might throttle people who told me that I had to think "positively" at the beginning of my quit! Positive???? They wanted me to be positive!!!! But....I have to admit that this quit got easier when I started focussing on things in my life that I could get excited about and stopped focussing so much on what I was giving up. This week has been kinda nasty but last night I went to a great fundraiser (Texas Holdem with fake money) and had fun and this morning I had a great run with a friend that I really like and I was feeling pretty good! This afternoon, my Mom called and, after awhile, I started rehashing all the problems of the week and I sucked all the positive out of my brain! (Yeppers...sucked it right out!) Sooo....I guess now it's time to start applying that positive thinking to the rest of my life...not just my quit. Good luck all!
