My opinion, for what it's worth...
I believe that whatever method you choose is right for you. HOWEVER, there is such a thing as quitting without quitting. When I first quit, I worked with a woman who'd quit smoking 5 years earlier. So, when I was preparing to quit, I asked her how she quit. She said she quit using the gum. Then, I asked her how long she used it and she said that she was STILL chewing the gum!!! FIVE YEARS LATER!!! She didn't quit - she substituted one addiction for another! This, in my opinion, is not truly quitting. Use the patch, gum, losenge or whatever for AS LONG AS RECOMMENDED!!! After about a month or two after the recommended time limit, if you're still on it, then you're not doing yourself any good! You're still spending money on an addiction, albeit a less deadly addiction, but an addiction nonetheless. Unhooked, you are still in the recommended time frame, so I don't think there's ANYTHING wrong with what you're doing! MANY people on this site have quit successfully using NRTs, and I'm sure that you will most certainly be one of them! If you're still bothered by what this person said, you can tell him where to go! That should make you feel better about it! :) You're doing an awesome job and I'm sure that when it's time to come off the patches, you will do it with grace and dignity, just like you have with the rest of this quit!
