Mercy, Thanks for the loads of information! Sam, If you're worried about the current state of your lungs, consult your doctor and see where you are at. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Mercy... you're information is having the effect on me the same way when I saw Phil's avatar of bad lung vs. good lung.. my jaw is now down to the floor after reading all of the ingredients in a cigarette. What were we thinking ? How could we have ever smoked to begin with ? But then again, way back when (34 yrs ago for me) I doubt that all of this information was available. I'm feeling nauseated and getting mental images of my lungs .. the effects of those 34 yrs damaged and sick... I can only now hope that by quitting at this point that my lungs will heal and become healthy and pink like in Phil's pic. Thank you for providing all of this information - something I should have looked at in the morning, rather than before I go to bed. It's unsettling for sure, but it is also a powerful eye opener to the facts of what cigarettes can do with all of their components. Going to distract myself now with very pleasant things and then off to sleep.. feeling extremely tired. 'Night night.. z z z z z z ! Sam...does this help? What does nicotine do? Nicotine is a poison and taken in large doses could kill a person by PARALYZING BREATHING MUSCLE!!!!!!!!!!!! (YIKES!!) Smokers usually take it in small amounts that the body can quickly break down and get rid of, which is why the nicotine does not kill instantly. Oh geez Mercy ! They (tobacco companies) put a chemical into the cigarettes which paralyzes the lungs !?!??!?!? That is SOOOOOOOO scary :8o: No seriously, that is freaking me out totally ! So what you're saying is that when you stop smoking the lungs are receiving just oxygen and they are reacting to that and are healing ? So the heaviness is due to a healing process.. but you say that you had this feeling for quite a while ? Did you ever have it checked out or did it just simply disappear ? Sam, We have had posts about this before. It must happen to people. I can verify that. I had a quit a couple of years back where that feeling persisted for awhile. Sometimes it felt quite crushing. This quit (my best quit ever and final quit) it didn't happen. They say all quits are different....AND THEY ARE. If it persists....do what the others said and check it out. I have read that one of the chemicals they put in cigaretettes paralysis the lungs. I think it is an after effect of the lungs getting their feelings back when inhaling oxygen without being numbed by the chemicals. It is a new feeling for the lungs. Hi mylast, no thank goodness I'm not running a fever. And the heaviness is lessening considerably since I first felt it when I woke up this morning. And I won't let this interfere with my quit ! Thanks Sue.. see yours was at bedtime, mine was upon wakening. And yes, Josie, I see from the responses that it seems to be a normal occurrence and if does persist I will not hesitate to see my dr. about it. Well due to the very high humidity, smog and heat here, I'm definitely staying indoors and I am not cooking ! Throw something into the micro to heat up and just stay cool :) Probably lay down for a little nap too :eg: Thanks everyone.. have a great day !
