Greg, Thank you for your sobering post. We all need to be reminded that smoking brings death close to home. It doesn't discriminate. Congratulations to you on one year! That's awesome! And yes, happy father's day to you -- you've earned it! Happy Father's Day to you, Greg! And congratulations on getting that first year. Wonderful achievement!! And thank-you for sharing some of your experience with us. It certainly serves to remind me of how grateful I am, and of how much I still have! Yesterday was not an especially good day, so I really needed to read your post this morning. It's restored some of my perspective. Thanks. Quit one year ago today. Im 47 years old. I truely believe had I not stopped smoking I would be dead right now or stroked out. (My daughters deserve better than that) I have a 17 month old grandson and I love him so much. He is going to need a cool Grandpa as he grows up. I've had several people die around me this year. My next door neighbor 46 yr old female and ironically her best friend about the same age, both smokers like me and both my age. My lovely Mom died at the young age of 74 from COPD. Her lungs were shot. She had a stroke 6 years ago and it made her unable to talk. Her mind recovered but her speech never came back. Trust me on this folks, if you ever have a stroke and lose your ability to speak, know that most family and friends run for the hills. She used to brag how the cigarette usually just burns up in the ashtray. I wish everybody could see the hard plastic wand they used to go down her throat into her lungs and literally vaccum the fluid and scum out of her lungs. Eventually her heart gave out. (Weak and damaged from the smoking too). Good Luck Everybody and God Bless you all. All of you are in my prayers. If you get to a point you are feeling weak, Pray, cause Prayer really works. Prayer has brought me through my quit.
