Well it seems as if my life's journey has taken me here, there and everywhere. But as I always like to point out to myself when in serious conversation, "no matter where you go, you gotta take yourself". If that is true, and I think it has the ring of honesty about it, one better like oneself. And that is the basis of my decision to quit the nic. I call myself an "emotive smoker", because I used nicotine to dumb down pesky emotional states. Angy...smoke, sad...smoke...happy smoke..."smoke smoke smoke that cigarette"...Who needs the added burden of actually having to experience these very human conditions, when being a human is a big enough job in itself. Well actually, I do. It may sound strange to you, but I felt that I was missing out on a part of the trip here, by living a good portion of it in a "nicotine dream". In short I have shed nicotine, because I want to experience me in my natural way of being. And that is a very good thing. In any case, that is why I bought my ticket on the train to quittentown... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 167 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,010 Amount Saved: $1,169.00 Life Gained: Days: 30 Hrs: 12 Mins: 45 Seconds: 29

Hi, Thought I'd chime in but Mr. Ed's post still has me giggling! Love you, Mr. Ed! I had smoked for 26 years with the most significant practice quit of about one year. Blew that because of a cheating spouse. Believe me, he was NOT worth it! Here I am, a very happy non-smoker! Never dreamed that I could really do this and I thank the good Lord everyday for watching over me during this journey! Hello. I'm Mister Ed. You may remember me from the TV some time ago. When they kicked my programme off the TV, I took up smoking and continued for 35 years. One day I set my barn on fire and Wilbur said enough was enough. That was 482 days ago. And ... je ne regrette rien!! :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 482 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 14,460 Amount Saved: 3,615.00 Life Gained: Days: 77 Hrs: 10 Mins: 44 Seconds: 12

Hi, I am Elaine. I smoked for 37 years! I quit about 703 times, at least that is what it feels like. The longest I have ever quit was seven months so my goal is to get past that, and I think I will make that goal this time, because I am an addict and there is no going back! I am quitting for me, for what I want from my health, my life, and my future. My adice to smokers: Give it an honest to goodness try, because you don't know how wonderful it feels to be free of that awful drug! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 96 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,400 Amount Saved: $1,012.80 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 19 Mins: 48 Seconds: 10

My name is Anna and I am a nicotine addict. hehehe Seriously, I was a closet smoker for 13 years. Only my good smoking friends new that I smoked...My parents would be soooo dissappointed in me so I hid it. Well, I thought I did until I quit and realized how smokers stink BAD! Anyway....for the past couple of years I have been grossed out by smoking. But, I continued to smoke. And smoke. And smoke. Then I hit 40..Yikes. I did not want to become an old lady who was all wrinkly and sickly, just from smoking all her life. Something about turning 40 made me look at myself and start taking care of myself before I start to fall apart. (Not that 40 is old, I just know I am not getting younger) I decided to just try to quit. What is the worst that would happen??? So, one Monday morning (january 8 to be exact), I smoked my last cigarette. I told myself to go until noon. I made it, so I told myself to go until 3:00 p.m. I made that too. I met all of my time lines. Then it was a goal to make it a week. Look at me now! I think about three weeks into my quit I was laying in bed on night and realized that I hadn't thought about smoking that day....I just took it minutes, hours, and days at a time until my life was normal not to have a cigarette. I did have some craves around 30 and 90 days but I wasn't about to give up then! I, like Mercy, love to be outdoors. I used to like to sit outside and smoke in the summer. I was afraid of caving this spring. I don't want to smoke though, I really don't, so I haven't. I can still sit outside and enjoy the evenings without that nasty cigarette. Now the thought of them almost makes me gag. Sometimes I wonder why I still visit this website. I want everyone to know that quitting smoking is not the end of the world. It is just the beginning of a wonderful freedom from an addiction. And if you want it bad enough, take baby steps and you can have it too! excellent thread Mercy :) I smoked for 25 years, loved it, didn't want to quit. DH did a retirement analysis which said if he continued smoking he would be dead at 65, so he had plenty of money to retire now, but if he quit he would live to 85. I didn't want to keep smoking while he was trying to quit, or so I told myself, so I rushed out to get some Chantix too. Smoking while on that stuff is vile, but we did for a week, we didn't know we were going cold turkey! We went through some emotions lemme tell ya, oh you probably already know. My Mum was visiting during this time, poor Mum, and we were on vacation during this time too, it was an unplanned quit. but it has gone very well, I have to say Chantix is a miracle for us. Tonight we went out for sushi at Kanki, we always used to smoke, drink and eat in the bar and as we walked up I was apprehensive about that, sitting there you know and said as much to DH, turns out whole restaurant is non-smoking now :) We ate the sushi bar, it was great. I thank God, my family, friends and everyone here who helped me do this. Sue feeling good and breathing good :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 38 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 380 Amount Saved: $66.50 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 16 Mins: 34 Seconds: 33

mercy, Great thread! Everyone here has such great stories! My quit is pretty well documented here so I won't rehash it, but I did want to post and say how proud I am of everyone here! Quitting sucks.. plain and simple. You have to be ready for it. Right, Bobbi? I am especially happy when I see a young quitter, that is, someone less than 40 or even 30! Too many of us feel invincible when we are young, and then when we get old, the damage is done. Damn the tobacco companies! Anyway... just a great big, HELL YES!!! to everyone here!! Keep up the great quits! This is your LIFE!! Live it healthy!! Be Strong. Be Smart.
