Hi mamakitty! We use to have a kitty nammed mamakitty too. :) She has since passed away though. :( I just want you to know that I started at 12 years old and have smoked for 17 years. I've tried to quit several times and this is it! I am on the patches and just stepped down to Step 2 today (I'm actually doing okay, better than I thought!). I just want you to know that YOU Can Do This, NO Matter What You Use To Get You Through, YOU CAN DO IT! You Have To WANT To QUIT More Than You WANT TO SMOKE! Good Luck! I'm rootin for ya! Hi and welcome! I am using the Chantix too, and it has helped me quite a bit. [q]I started smoking when I was about 12, I think while feeling rebellious and wanting to establish my idependence. I believed it made me look older and more accepted among my (smoking) siblings and peers. It was great fun to feel so grown up in those early years.[/q] Same story here. I thought all those things too when I was 12, by 14 I was a full time smoker and by high school I was smoking a LOT. We had a smoking area in our high school LOL! Long time ago. I remember as a child going to the grocery store and there were ashtrays at the end of every aisle. I used to smoke in the breakroom at the hospital when I first started nursing. But I digress.... Glad you found us, and good luck! Hi mamakitty, It has taken me many tries to succeed as well. I quit on 06/01/07, and want you to know I made it through the week (had some "moments,") but everything is OK now. Amazing how much of a difference one week can make. You will be so pleased and proud of yourself. Envision your success and you will get there. And you are right about this support group, they are very nice, encouraging, and well-educated. Go for it! You're surrounded by very good company. Thank you everybody... You all mean so much to me! I'm so glad you're here... I'd love to be your Quit Buddy ImaWriter... I'm still not sure how to use everything on this site yet - nor do I know if I can (I'm on a Mac) but I will look into it more. I'm happy to know you're on a similar path with the Chantix etc. I will be sure to let you know how it goes. If you have questions too, I would be glad to help if I can! Good to know there's another mamakitty:) Thanks again to all for the support... mk

Hi, mamkitty! I'm new here, too. I started my Chantix yesterday and my quit date is June 15. I started smoking at about the same age you did and have been at it for 35+ years - and like you, I have tried numerous times to quit. I'm up for being your "Quit Buddy" if you'd like. I haven't downloaded the IM tool but I will if you want - or we could just exchange phone numbers and email addresses. OH! And I have a "mama kitty" - that really is her name! :) Good luck. I'm glad we are both here. Hey Mamakitty You are in the right place, this site has kept me on track and it will do the same for you. Don't worry about the number of times that you have quit, you've had practice and that will help you along the way. I would advise doing the exercises and really figure out the why where and when of your smoking. This is a solitary journey in some ways, because we really need to know the seeds of our addiction in order to think our way through the hard times. When you need help, you will find any number of people who will invest in your quit here. You are not alone, so read, post and learn as much as you are able about the addiction. You can do this. This is the greatest decision that you can make... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 166 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,980 Amount Saved: $1,162.00 Life Gained: Days: 30 Hrs: 8 Mins: 29 Seconds: 34
