I think the buzz of the adventure of giving up gets you through the first phases - even if they're horrible but that eventually it just seems to be a bit of a drag. LOL LOL. But it is a route to a fresher and freer you. You are doing really well to get to this stage and you do have to just keep reminding yourself that a cigarette WOULD taste horrible and you would feel so bad and it would not make any given situation better. Tryagain, This WILL indeed pass. Believe in yourself because not only can you do it, you are doing it and you will continue to do it. You are stronger than you know and I am so proud of your strength. Just look at your stats... Hi Tryagain, I think some of us are just more addicted than others and that is why we continue to have the hard cravings I don't think mine will ever go away. Just keep working through them and you won't have to deal with any regrets. Hang in there and keep posting :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 78 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,560 Amount Saved: $507.00 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 1 Mins: 34 Seconds: 18

Hi tryagain, I recently had a very bad day and what helped me was I went to my old posts and read the ones from when I made milestones. The encouragement lifted my spirts to keep on going and the crave went away. Reaffirm why you quit and really focus on the positive side of your quit. I hope that helps some. Wishing you the best - YOU CAN DO THIS My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 98 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,450 Amount Saved: $490.00 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 10 Mins: 17 Seconds: 6

Hi Casey, About 12 years ago I took a smoking cessation class. I recall the Instructor warned us about the 4 month, 9 month, and one year mark, as times of extreme vulnerability due to the release of residual chemicals left in our system (manufacurer's design to keep people hooked). Do you know if there is any merit to that statement? Might offer some insight and help everyone have an additional reason to fight the urge to smoke again. Thanks, QuitMyster My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 30 Amount Saved: $9.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 18 Mins: 13 Seconds: 28

Tryagain, You're absolutely right. A cigarette would not make anything better. I'm not quite sure what to say to encourage you, but I just wanted you to know that my thoughts are with you. I hope that this just a bump in the road on your journey to freedom. Hold on tight and stay with us. I did so much better the first 60 days. It's been all downhill from there. I don't know why I thought it would be over by now. I must have been dreaming. When I do dream, I dream about smoking! Yet, I know that if I had a cigarette, it would taste foul, hurt my chest, make me cough, give me a headache and my first thought after finishing that cig would be "I wish I hadn't done that". So I don't do that. I just keep on keeping on, not smoking, putting up with the really intense cravings and getting through them the best way I can. I am still on the gum, which I have tried to quit. Right now, I believe it's mostly psychological because I cut them in half or fourths. I can't be getting much out of a quarter of a 2mg nicorette! I've tried having a regular gum instead. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't work. If I could get a day off work, or a couple of days, maybe I could just go to bed, and stay there, use all my effort and concentration on not having a cigarette. But, that isn't going to happen, nor can it happen. I hope that this is part of just running it's course and will in time pass. Everything else has passed. Surely, surely this will too.
