Bobbi, I know how you feel. I went through this with the patch before and I lost my quit. Maybe I can help. I think it's our last farewell to the addiction. We have learned to live without cigarettes but now we know we will also be giving up nicotine and that brings out the all the emotions and doubts and the junkie that lives in our head throws a big tantrum. Maybe the junkie is especially vocal if you didn't go through the emotional part at the beginning. This is really a gift, Bobbi, because it's a reminder that you aren't done yet and a chance to make sure you're locked & loaded. You deserve a reward for what you have learned and accomplished and contributed in your 66 days so do that first. Then review your coping strategies & put plans in place for anything you haven't already considered. It's a chance to prepare for quitting nicotine the same way you prepared to quit smoking & it will work just as well. You have inspired & encouraged so many of us so oftern & you can keep doing it. You know you want it & you kknow how to do it & I know you will. This is the final step to freedom! Bobbi, There is hurdles and milestones for sure! Your doing great and what you feel is normal. Your brain is adjusting and learning to make your feel good chemicals right now. They tend to be on low supply for awhile. Positive reinforcement works great. Do some internet searches on the suffering people go through when they get cancer or diseases from smoking. I use to make pretend I had gotten a disease and did research on it. When I got done I was so glad I quit and the craves were gone for DAYS. Also... durring hard times I found that watching a movie gave my mind a break for a bit. It is two hours being absorbed in something else besides smoking. It makes the time pass and your brain will say "thankyou" Your doing great. 66 days is no small feat. Bobbi, Given that you are on the 7mg patches and have already done 66 days, I do not think that what you are experiencing is nicotene withdrawal. The 7mg patches really are very low indeed and you really do not want to start putting more nicotene back in your body via the gum. You really do not need it anymore. If you are due to finish soon, then if not Tuesday itself, you should be looking to come off altogether in the next couple of weeks. So what is it then? I think you have the BLAHs. We all experience these episodes - often of several days linked together - when you are fed up with fighting. The quit is not new anymore, it is no longer exciting, you are fed up. Life is not as fun anymore. Is it always going to be like this? (No). Is the quit really worth it when I feel miserable? (YES!). And then you start to entertain thoughts of smoking....that is what starts the cravings up. If you start to doubt your resolve or to think about maybe 'just having one'....I can quit before, I can quit again...all this is 'junkie thinking'. You have to really shut these thoughts out and divert your attention elsewhere. Look - you are already at 66 days. That is AMAZING. But the feeling really good part is still to come. This is not what being an ex-smoker is like - your body is still in intense recovery, regardless of getting the nicotene out of your system. It is time for a reward plan. You need something to look forward to, not just now, but start planning your 100 day reward, and your 120 day reward. These do not have to be 'big' purchases (although they could be!)....just something to treat yourself with.....whether it is jewelry or some perfume...a nice meal at that restaurant that is more special than the one you usually go to...a day trip somewhere. Something for you and your sister? You will have to decide. You are doing great. It will get better. Bobbi, Sometimes this happens. When we first quit, we think that in a few days, weeks or months, we'll be "over" this addiction... but the fact is, we smoked for many years... it's going to take more than 2 months to fully get over this addiction. While 66 days is awesome, you're still not out of the woods yet. But just remember that each day you are smoke free, you are one day closer to never feeling this way again! But it does take some time to get there. Have you been rewarding yourself lately? As smokers, we rewarded ourselves for EVERYTHING with a smoke... so now that you've been quit for over 2 months, your body wants a reward... and it expects a cigarette because that's what you rewarded yourself with before! So reward yourself! Be good to yourself right now... especially if you are having more cravings! You've done an awesome thing and should be proud of yourself! Treat yourself well! Crave the Quit! Can anyone answer this or have any ideas??? the first couple of mo. the quit smoking was not bad at all! i only had one kinda bad day after the first mo. I have been on the patches, am on the 7 mg. will be off them this coming Tues. I talked to my sister who lives 3 hrs. away from me this eve. and she is having the same problem, she is on Chantix, it is much harder as time goes on, when I first quit cravings were not long, not very often, would hit and gone, thought wow not bad at all, but now it is worse the cravings are worse and much longer, also get so sick at my stomach, body is going to explode any min. is terriable and so sad most of the time. Don;t know why this would be happening now, everything I read all this happens the first few weeks but not me or my sister. any ideas????? I sure hope so. some say I should get the 2 mg. gum for when craves are real bad or keep some 7 mgs. when the are bad, say is better then smoking, I am so confused about all this! hugs and prayers, Bobbi :confuse: My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/27/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 66 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,980 Amount Saved: $165.00 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 15 Mins: 45 Seconds: 27
