I need your opinion!

Ok just a theory, and a very immature one at that but... How long were you on 20mg paxil for? Maybe it just pooped out on you. Increasing the dose doesnt always help - and it can make you feel a lot more edgy etc. Also how long have you been on 50mg for? It could take a fair while to settle down changing from 20-50. 2-3 weeks possibly, sometimes longer. For someone with OCD/GAD, poop out would tend to feel like all the anxiety comes rushing back. Maybe you could talk to your dr about changing SSRIs. Luvox can be really good for OCD. Zoloft is also meant to be good. Depends on what you prefer though.

i have had ocd diagnosed for 10 years now. i was fine on 20mg paxil everyday. the beginning of this year for no reason i can tell...iit came back to haunt me and i was diagnosed with pa, ocd, and gad. i don't really have pa's but just general anxiety about nothing. my life if fine and i respond to real danger appropriately. i just feel like i am about to go to the electric chair or be struck by lightning all the time. i was drinkin 2-3 beers a night to chill myself out as klonopin did nothing. i am now on paxil cr 50 mg/day. i have avery stressful job but i love it and thrive on the work (critical care nursing). i feel depressed/down a lot for no reason and am very anxious about nothing! reading brain lock helped with the ocd exacerbation

yeah it could be. Have you consider the other possibilities? Sometimes feeling low can be a physical thing (lack of fitness, poor diet, unhealthy lifestyle can make you feel low). Obviously this may not be the case for you. What are you taking (if anything) for your ocd?

no, i feel like down when i have ocd attacks. but i also feel down when my ocd thoughts are not occurring. somedays i could be given a million dollars and still feel like **** even though my thoughts are ver positive. it is probably a type of depression.

So are you saying that when your thoughts are negative/intrusive/ obsessive, you feel great, or just the other way round (feel low when your thinking is happier?) I suspect that you might be drawing a relationship for something coincidental. I still think it sounds like you are challenging your own happiness when you are feeling "better" so to speak, which is what I was getting at in myy other post. Remember that our thoughts and our feelings are inter-related. We perceive everything, including our feelings through our mind. You have to think that you are feeling low to feel it.

Thanks trish! I can't believe that someone has seen a change in me through my posts! How cool! I have mad a lot of progress with my ocd exacerbation this year. But every few days i have a down day and i anticipate and fear them. I remember back to march when i would cry before work fearing to go, fears of kosing my mind and asking to be admitted to a psych hospital. Of course, for my own good they didn't admit me and i worked through it all supporting my family. It just gets so old. I am 29 and some days i think 'is this gonna happen my entire life?' i have irritable bowel and bad allergies and they take their turn along with ocd and depression HAUNTING my life. as a nurse, i see far worse than I and appreciate my good fortune. But, i get so confused when my thoughts and feelings don't match! I have a great life...good job, good future, great family, darling toddler boy, money, i am writing a novel and planning for grad school, SO WHY DO I feel LIKE ****?

Nurseboy, I remember when you first came to this board, your posts, if you look back over them, you have made significant progress, you may not see it, but its apparent to the ones who read posts, you can see the changes, the strides you make, many times, we were so very much in the complusive stage of worrying that when feeling better, there is almost a sense of this happiness isnt deserving or flat fear that it wont last, hence the down feelings, it takes time to desensitize to feelings, it doesnt happen overnight, we sometimes feel, things have been going so good, your almost anticipating the world crashing down on you again, allow yourself the good days, and remember not to beat yourself up on a down day. You truly have made major strides, this too will pass.

It' not my thoughts chimpmaster but my feelings. I feel down when my thoughts are up (positive).

Anxiety for those of us who have obsessions tends to be a self destructive thought pattern. We are often quite intelligent people with a strong degree of insight and strong analytical skills. This type of thinking can tend to lead to challenging everything you hear - maybe not actively, but not believing everything you are told. It can also involve challenging your own thoughts and feelings, which again can be a very self destructive pattern, or it can be a postive thing. Like everything in our lives, we become conditioned to react in a certain way. If we allow our minds to respond to intrusive thoughts in a negative way, it can create a great deal of anxiety, affect our self confidence. You need to, in the short term, look at thought stopping - not letting the intrusive thoughts bother you - just recognise that - that thought is not part of my normal thinking pattern, it like an error, it doesnt bother me or affect what I am feeling, and it can pass. I try to visualise a hand pushing the thought away. Preventing the intrusive thoughts themselves is another matter of course. Meds can helps with this.

Hi Nurseboy I'm beginning to wonder how many professionals have had panic, gad, ocd or depression. They may have taken alot of schooling but I still think it's impossible for them to know how we're feeling! I agree with you
