Think about alcoholism. Think about addiction to heroin. Think about junkies who have to have their fix of crack. Their fix is their best friend. Because when they go a little while without a drink or without a hookup, they start going through withdrawals, and only their best friend can get them out.
Now think about you. No, this isn't a nasty little habit. This is addiction. You are an addict. A junkie. No different from the others. And your hit off that cigarette eases your withdrawals and then you think it is your best friend. It isn't. It's just a drug wrapped in white paper. Like crack.
When that fact finally hits you, and when you want to stop being an addict, and when you will do anything it takes to stop smoking, and then when you stop smoking, you are quit. And you are quit as long as you never light up another one. That's all it takes...don't light the next one or any one after that.
You can do this, Dee. You can.
