Lolo, You and jonthedj have great quits going - twins or not  I almost posted something about you being twins on your celebration in the stats parade too so I'm glad you told me. I can be a little slow on the uptake at times. Shakes, You've also got a strong quit and a great attitude going. You are only a stone's throw from TWO MONTHS! Thats great. You youngins are blazing a great trail. ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1028 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 20,560 Amount Saved: $4,626.00 Life Gained: Days: 78 Hrs: 11 Mins: 53 Seconds: 8

I love this thread, you guys? I'm 31; I'll be 32 June 8th (even though it says I'm 32 in my profile for some reason...). And I think Phil is definitely on to something with the younger harder thing. I'm someone who realized the possible perils of smoking and always knew I would quit. I said at 25 that I would quit by the time I'm 30 years old. When I was about to turn 30 I tried, failed, etc...and just kept putting it off. But each time I tried to quit, I learned more about this addiction, more about myself and my triggers and reasons for smoking, and more about the tools available to someone who is serious about quitting. And it's all lead up to this quit, almost two full years later than I had resolved to, and I know that this is THE ONE. But I do wonder sometimes if my ability and determination to quit this time has to do with me maturing. Finally "getting" it. Ya know? But regarding the invincibility issue: I did have that mind-set about everything under the sun. "It won't happen to me", etc... But one of my biggest excuses to keep smoking that I used over and over making myself feel invincible, was that the older people in my family who smoked (all of my grandparents, great grandparents, etc) never had any health issues directly related to smoking. That's not to say that my grandpa's smoking didn't speed up his downfall from Parkinsons, I'm sure it did. But, point is, it was easy to use their lack of health issues as a topic of rationalization. Anyway, those are my thoughts on this stuff. Now: anybody got anything heavy they need me to carry for them? --Shakes My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 55 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,100 Amount Saved: $495.00 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 21 Mins: 22 Seconds: 50

Martha, You posted, "I think it's great that you and jonthedj are both quitting. You are like the ultimate quit buddies! You don't feel eachother's craves though do you?" I just wanted to let you know that we aren't "real twins". We are twins by choosing to be non smokers the same day! But thank you for the support. Hey, does that mean I can be 35 again???? I'm not willing to take the "it won't happen to me" approach. My quit is important to me and I hope I don't make the same mistake again. We can never take quitting smoking for granted. Its a hard fought battle with a glorious outcome! Still...can I be 35 again???? In reality, I have 18 months to go until I hit 50! I'm still young, although some days my joints feel a little creaky! Love the topic, Phil, Cheers, Jan ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 90 Amount Saved: $27.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 10 Mins: 17 Seconds: 17

Lolo, I think it's great that you and jonthedj are both quitting. You are like the ultimate quit buddies! You don't feel eachother's craves though do you? Personally, I like men so I'm glad they gain more life. And really, isn't their life expectancy shorter than women anyway? So it sort of balances out.
