Jan, Good girl!!!! Bravo!!!!! At 108 days you wouldn't really want to blow such a good quit. You'll only go back to wanting one all the time....instead of occasional craves. If smoking was the answer to weight then all smokers would look like desperate housewives. Look around... there is lots of very overweight smokers. Besides... if we can quit smoking... we can do anything... including losing weight later. Way to go..... you helped me. For some reason I have had a few hard days lately too. I'm sure it is the change of season. Jan, I once blew a three year (yes three year) quit in part due to a 20 pound weight gain. I'll be honest, when I started smoking again the weight did come off, but at what price? Those extra pounds certainly were'nt going to give me lung cancer for crying out loud. So far in this quit I've not gained any weight, but even if I do, I will NOT resort to smoking to get it off. Glad to hear you're still smoke free- you are still an inspiration to me! Jan58, I know you must be frustrated with the weight gain but you know that smoking is not the answer. It may take some time for you to see results as your metabolism may still be in a dip. Keep at it and you'll get there! You may also find it helpful to seek professional assistance if you're struggling. Your doctor for instance, can refer you to a dietitian and together you can come up with a plan. Danielle ______________________ The SSC Support Team

Jan, I think at one time or another, we all entertain the thought of thinking (stinking thinking by the way!) that maybe if we went back to smoking we would lose the quit pounds. In time, it will some off, stick with the exercise and eating right. Smoking might keep some people thinner but it's also killing them. You made the right choice. I am glad you pushed past this one - keep your guard up ! Thanks guys, Your posts really help. That scared me to think how close I was to lighting up. I DON'T want to go through that again. But if I do, at least I'll be ready for it. For me, posting right away, as soon as it happened, REALLY helped me. I think I'll have a quiet, laid back evening. Cheers, Jan :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/13/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 106 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,201 Amount Saved: $954 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 23 Mins: 57 Seconds: 58

Jan, good for you for not believing that junkie lie. My neighbor quit smoking and gained 50 pounds. So she went back to smoking. And guess what? She's now a smoker who's 50 pounds heavier! You are doing great! It's amazing how hard we can work for something and how easily we could give it away. Although it's hard to believe (given how I was feeling at the time), I'm thinner and fitter than before I quit. In fact that was what saved me from giving up my quit. Now (having said that ... you would think that I would be smarter) but I have been a little under the weather this week and have not been to the gym since Monday. Last night, hubby had a friend over ... they each had a beer, I was having a glass of wine and they went out on the deck to smoke. I was SOOOOOOOOOOOO tempted. Had to get up and do the dishes (and then head off to bed early before I did anything stupid) This nice spring weather is great but it's bringing afew new cravings with it too. I think I need to get back to the gym and run those smoking thoughts out of my head! Jan, Congrats on pushing through that junkie thinking! Ole Nick never gives up! I think we always have to be vigilant, never let our guard down. Because if we do, I think he'll be there. You did a great job! Stay strong and just look at that quit meter! There's no turning back now!!!!!!! And the experience REALLY had my head in a spin. I've had cravings on and off throughout my journey, but never one where I HONESTLY entertained the idea of starting to smoke again. This was the reasoning: I am trying to take some weight off and up to now it hasn't been easy. Then the whisperings started, very faint at first, but they grew, and grew and GREW!!!! "Maybe I should think about smoking for a few weeks just to get my diet underway, and then I could quit again." Sounded simple and believeable. Between Old Nick and myself, we'd built up quite a case for starting again. I managed to shake myself out of it, with help from hubby. It left me frightened at how vulnerable I had been to REALLY think about doing this. I had to post this guys, because THAT kind of thinking almost got me in trouble. I'd love all the responses I can get right now. Oh, and for the record....I WON'T smoke. Thanks guys, Jan :8o: My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/13/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 106 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,200 Amount Saved: $954 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 23 Mins: 53 Seconds: 12
