Had a HORRIBLE crave today

SammiJo - so glad to hear that you overcame those "evil" thoughts. Interesting that it wasn't till after when you calmed down that you thought of it, I can sort of relate to that. Maybe it has something to do with being more relaxed and letting your guard down at that point? Sort of like when you have lots of pressures and you are going on overdrive. Then suddenly when things ease up, boom, it all catches up with you and you end up getting sick. That's my thought. Maybe someone further along will have more insight. But the bottom line is that you got through it! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/29/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 39 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 480 Amount Saved: $159.12 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 16 Mins: 44 Seconds: 44

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

This morning I had a confrontation with my 17-year-old daughter and it turned SO ugly... I never, ever imagined that one of my children would scream the f-word at me and say such hateful things. We ended up talking on my front porch for over an hour and we did reach a peaceful conclusion (and she apologized for the things she said), but I was still an emotional basket case. I cried so much and so hard this morning that my eyes were swollen and my head was aching, but nevertheless I had an errand to run. I got about halfway to my destination when suddenly I had these thoughts: There's a gas station up ahead. If there ever was a day that I deserved a smoke, today's the day. Just one pack, just one cigarette. Maybe two. I'll have to buy a lighter too, because I don't have a single match or lighter in my purse or car anymore. I'll stand outside the gas station (away from the pumps of course) and smoke a couple, because I certainly don't want to smoke in my car. I'll buy some mints, too, because I don't want my children to smell the smoke when I come home. They'd be so disappointed if they knew. I said out loud: "NO!" NO. If I smoke, I'll still have this situation to deal with (with my daughter), only I'll have the guilt for smoking on top of it. It's NOT going to help, it's only going to take away things which are valuable (my quit and my newfound ability to BREATHE). Ohhhhhhh, I came sooooooo close. But I didn't do it. Whew! It's interesting to me though, that I didn't have a single crave or junkie thought WHILE the confrontation was taking place. Even sitting out there on the front porch (where I used to smoke!), it never even OCCURRED to me to want a cigarette. It wasn't until after it was over and I was calming down, that I had all these thoughts. What's up with that? When my son was 17 years old we had a knock down fist fight. He picked me up and threw me into a wall. I moved out and for five years didn't let him know where I was. He is now 42 and we have worked it out. Don't smoke. Sammi Good for you...You know we never want the smoke when the adrenaline is flowing...Its only after the confrontation is over that the junkie starts telling us that we deserve the cig because we just went through such a terrible ordeal...Its the old reward thing resurfacing but once again...Good for you to have resisted so bravely...Stay well...Your destined to quit for good...somehow I don't think the junkie will ever over take you or grab you by surprise...As for the 17 year old, well I am sure it is humiliating to hear that type of language leveled at you from the one person you have nurtured and protected for so many years. However, it must be tough being that age now...I am sure she is probably full of fear and may not even recognize that she is not angry with you, but acting out of irrational, but quite understandable fear... Stay strong Nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 135 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,257 Amount Saved: $945 Life Gained: Days: 25 Hrs: 5 Mins: 11 Seconds: 51
