Hi MaMa G, Glad to see you back today. I used Chantix and it really has helped me in my quit. The most important thing is that you really want to quit and the second thing is to stay as close to this site as you can. My first weekend of not smoking I think I spent the days here just reading and reading. I learned alot and it passed the time and the craves. Good luck and stay close :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 48 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 970 Amount Saved: $312 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 17 Mins: 57 Seconds: 12

Hello and welcome MaMa.G As others have said, there is no one right way. I went cold turkey because I just wanted to do it there and then and not keep putting nicotine into my body. Whatever you do it is hard but this site is great because - if nothing else - you can come on here and read and post and that soon takes up a load of time when you might have been smoking! You'll find all sorts of stories and exeriences here. Some you will identify with and others not but I guarantee that if you keep reading time will tick by day by day and suddenly you'll be amazed at the stats building up at the bottom of your posts. Good luck. Gen :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 41 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 663 Amount Saved: 287 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 10 Mins: 9 Seconds: 31

Hey MaMa G. I,m also a patch user after 50+ years smoking. You may experience some side effects from using the patch I personnaly have none. I was told to place the patch above the waist I put it on my upper arm alternating between the two each day. Bottom line(excuse the pun)make sure you follow the steps right to bitter end..Good luck and drop by often there,s always sombody around to help you through the process. Hey Jess did you get a spare nozzle thingy yet.I,d hate to see you get caught short again. ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 48 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 872 Amount Saved: $480 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 10 Mins: 51 Seconds: 4

I too am using the patch, although I did slip a few days ago (didn't have a craving by the way) and blamed it on the fight with hubby and reset my quit meter to help alleviate the sudden overwhelming guilt I felt looking at it!, but truthfully I simply didn't know how to handle stress! The only problem I have had with the patch was that it made the muscle in my arm hurt quite a bit, so instead of giving up I did what many suggested and put it on my....ummm......well you know, BUTT. It has worked great there, and there's plenty of room to keep from overlapping sites....lol I have thrown myself into a daily exercise routine, and LOTS of water. As much as I love coffee I had to stop drinking it because I had always associated it with smoking...lol And what has helped the most is this site. Everyone is soooo supportive, and great motivators. I read as much as I can, because no matter what you are feeling or going through there is always someone here that has been there and understands! And post, although I haven't posted in a few days due to the fact that I am incredibly whinny right now....lol Good luck! ;pHAIL THE NOZZLE THINGY! ;p Jessica My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/4/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 88 Amount Saved: $16.84 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 7 Mins: 51 Seconds: 7

The patch has worked well for me, along with theese great all naturaul things called tea tree chewing sticks. They are like toothpicks with this all naturaul mentol bite to them. Works great. Keep it up! Welcome Mama G! You won't find a better support site than this (and if you do, don't tell us! We think we're the best! :p ) To answer your question, I tried Smoke Away and it did work, but I was getting awfully weird dreams, so after about 4 or 5 days, went Cold Turkey. It wasn't easy, but like others have said, there's not an easy way to do this... you have to want it more than you want to smoke. No aid can quit for you... you have to put in the hard work, and the aid can help you transition to thinking, acting and living like a non-smoker. If you're trying to decide which aid to use (or if to use an aid), ask yourself this question: "What withdrawal symptom(s) am I most afraid of? If the answer is depression, then talk to your doctor about Zyban or Wellbutrin. If the answer is Physical Withdrawal symptoms and cravings, then get an NRT such as the patch or the gum. If the answer is that you are afraid you will have a constant desire to smoke, then talk to your doctor about Chantix - supposedly (I've never tried it), it takes away the desire to smoke and blocks smoking from having any positive effect on your brain... so even if you smoke, it's as if you haven't. If the answer is that you're afraid of prolonging the process of quitting, then I suggest going cold turkey. The best thing I can tell you is to talk to your doctor and let him/her help you decide which method is best for you. Again, welcome and congrats on the decision to quit! Crave the Quit!
