cravings from no where??

Hi all, Im currently on day 8 of my quit. week one was really quite a breeze (compared to what I thought it would be!), although I had horrid withdrawls I didn't mind and hardly craved a smoke at all. but since yesterday (day 7) it is taking all my will power not to run off and have 'just one' (which I know it wont be). I am using all my coping strategies and any others I can think of, so far I have been ok... I really really don't want to go back to being a smoker!!! I have been so proud of myself.. but will this 'obcession' pass soon? I am getting really cranky and stuff and don't know why its just starting now when I have been doing so well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Leifang, How are you doing? Let us know when you have time. Okay? We really are here for you and want to help as much as we possibly can. We are all so different and so are our quits. I was about where you are now when I was slammed and dunked with some really bad cravings. I hung in there but I did things like: Drank liters of water, kept telling myself that my body is healing....It really is too with each craving, I b***hed at that demon....This allowed me to blow off steam, put ME back in charge or bigger than the cravings, and made the craving pass, and I came here and posted, vented, posted, and vented. You really CAN do this. I know some days at the beginning seem impossible but, they really aren't. You do have to fight and pull out the big guns. Every moment in your life in which you chose to lit up a ciggerate has been imprinted in your habit. I sometimes find myself in scenarios, the likes of which I haven't been in since I smoked, and the craving returns. The craving is there, but a 1 on a scale of 10 and the fights over in a second. These moments are now few and far between. Now I just find them interesting. You're on the right road!It get's easier!

Leifang, What you do with your meter is entirely up to you. It's your motivational tool, choose the option that will motivate you the most. From my standpoint, a slip does not wipe out 10 days smoke free. I would urge you to examine the situation in which you slipped and learn from it. How will you handle this situation in the future? What strategies can you employ? Put together a plan for this trigger, including an "escape plan" for when temptation becomes too great. Let us know if you need any help or ideas. I was going through a terrible time and had one cigarette. I knew it wouldn't happen again and it didn't. I didn't reset my quit meter but if I had more, it's not a slip, it's a relapse and yes, then I'd have to reset. The quit is an up and down kind of thing. I was going along just fine, even had a few days when cigs did not cross my mind. Yesterday felt like hell week all over again. Not only did I have cravings, but other withdrawal symptoms all over again. Today is much better at least so far. If there is anything sure about a quit, it's that nothing is sure so make sure you're determined about quitting.

thank u so much for the encouragement. I almost feel like my slip up has made my conviction stronger.. it so wasnt worth it (and I have a icky headache today).. I am more determained than ever to beat these little @#$%&*! Hi Leifang Sorry to hear about your slip. But, the good thing is you didn't enjoy it and are determined again. You can do this!!!! maybe it would be good to have some more strategies in place for dealing with being with your smoking friends. I used a "fake" cigarette holder to chew on and blow through when I felt I just had to have something in my mouth like a cigarette. Whatever works for you. I've seen different people who have slipped handle it different ways. Some re-set their quit meters, some have just gone on with where they were. It seems like it is a personal choice. I suggest doing what feels right to you. If you don't re-set and you feel guilty about it, then you might as well re-set it. You already have enough guilty feelings! Leifang - the decision to reset the meter is a personal one. However, a lot of people feel that one slip does not need to change your meter - if you learn from it and realize what went wrong so it won't happen again. Don't beat yourself up about it, but don't brush it off either. Figure out how to handle the situation differently next time. You can do it! I feel terrible because I slipped yesterday, but worse still becasue I lied to my partner becuase I just didn't want to get the failure' lecture. I definately haven;t given up on my quit. I feel positive today and no cravings. it is just being around my friends as they 'all' smoke and when I spend time with them it is so hard not to 'join' in. I really think I will be stronger in the future becuase the two (half) ones I had tasted horrible and made me feel really terrible. Do I need to change my quit meter...start again? I just feel dishonest because it is acutally -2.
