Change of Season Brings Cravings?!?

17 years ago 0 420 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Thanks for all the replies and input, everyone! I now understand why you have to go through all seasons. I had let my guard down a little, but now I know I need to always have an alternative ready and I need to continue rewards. I had stopped thinking about that, and it is necessary. I didn't consider smoking, but I was getting annoyed at the thoughts, but now have my usual positive self back! Am almost to ninety days, have gained 4 pounds, and feel great! I appreciate this site and all you people! I'm not bragging about the weight gain... would rather have no weight gain, but it could be much worse! At least I've been able to maintain for awhile now. Interesting, you need to go thru all the seasons. I know you probably didn't want to that but take it from me, attack each season like it's your first time. Next years seasons will be brighter cos you will have been through as a non-smoker. Give the beast the finger from me will ya, i've forgot what he looks like. I agree. I had a cookout Saturday and the first hour or so was awful. I always smoked when I cooked on the grill. It eventually passed and we all had a good time. I am glad to see all you folks say "I will not give in", I think that alone is the key. It is all mental now! I am beginning to notice a lot of my friends are starting to cut down and two have already quit. I hope my example causes several more to quit soon, including my wife. I feel good that I can cause someone to improve their life. YES!!! The season changes often bring on new, unexpected changes. That's why they say that it takes 12-18 months to be completely free of the addiction because you have to go through all of the seasons, and I truly believe that. Even myself, who has been quit for 21 months, is having an influx of cravings due to the season change... because there are things that our minds associate with smoking that only happen once or twice a year. Now, I don't want to scare anybody by saying that I still get cravings even though I've been quit a while... they're not the same as in the beginning and you'll just have to trust me on that... and yes, they are completely tolerable... but they do sometimes happen, even late in the quit. The good news is that the more we do something (like mow the lawn, clean the house, etc...) without smoking, the less frequent the cravings are when doing those activities. So just keep doing what you've been doing and you'll be fine! Crave the QUit! We have had a few nice days pop up around here. The woods behind my house are coming alive. I have FORCED myself to go outside with my coffee and gaze at the woods like I use to. The first time I had a few craves. But I will NOT give up things I enjoyed for the lie". It is a lie you cannot have coffee on the patio and gaze at the woods. Now it is getting easier to make my coffee and go outside. They say you have to experience all the things in life without cigarettes to end that connection. That is why I am making myself do the outdoor thing without the cigarette moments. Just like driving in the car was a trigger.....and now it's not....so can enjoying the nice weather. Believe me.... I hear ya!!!! ...and understand. Right now I am tackling a vacation to Florida for the first time as a non smoker. I have GOT TO DO THIS THING. Your stats are great. Can't wait till mine can say that. Oh my gosh, did I write that post???? I had the exact same feelings a few days ago. The other day I was spring cleaning my house and thought, well, I will take a smoke break now.....what the heck? The good news is, the past two days have been fine. I really thought about it and I know that if I smoked, I would feel like crap. Plus, I don't even want to smoke anyway. IIIICCCCCKKKKKK. I took a 5 mile bike ride this evening and did not run out of breath. Humm, go figure! No problem. Go ahead and whine all you want with 84 smoke free days, you deserve it! I think that I am lucky in here simply because I smoked everywhere. It seemed I was always outside smoking when I left home, or sitting in the house, or the van.... Somewhere....smoking....yuck All that time that I was smoking when I could have been enjoying the sunshine, the beach, or just about anything else. I look forward to spring as a non smoker, and when I do crave I will enjoy the fact that I don't have to give in anymore for it to go away. Now it does all on its own. I was reading posts from others having cravings who are 50+ days into their quit. I've really noticed it as spring has really arrived. I keep having these new annoying reminders from left field, that it's time to go smoke now. Mowed the lawn... go sit outside in the lovely weather and smoke. Finished this or that outside... time to go smoke. I didn't smoke in my house, so in the winter I didn't notice these things, as it was annoying to go to the garage or outside to smoke. Now in the spring/summer it is a different story. I liked smoking in the spring. In the winter I only did it to feed the beast. That is the conclusion I've come to over the past few days. I won't smoke, but am really getting tired of the annoying thoughts. These thoughts are almost easier to deal with at the beginning of the quit because of the high level of excitement a person has about quitting. Not that it has become "old hat" by any means, but it's not at the forefront of my mind anymore. I need John W to ask me if I want some cheese with my whine, as that's how I've felt today. I'm tired of replacing that urge for "something" with food. Walking helped earlier, and staying really busy. So... any of you others who have commented on this case of the craves, I really think it's the change of seasons, and new triggers. For me it is. Beat the beast! I don't even want to give the beast any more of my thought time. This post was for two reasons: to tell you, who are craving, that you aren't alone, and to whine a little. Sorry about the whining. Just found the posting from Interesting. Thank God someone out there is feeling the way I do. I am just at DAY TWO but understand that feeling of disappointment when the reward is not the cigarette any more. The sadness at it's removal from my life but the excitement that I seem to be doing something positive about having got it out. Just told my Mother I quit and she did not respond in the slightest. Not a word. Maybe she is deafer than I thought. I had imagined that she would be the one to get very excited. And I thought I was the only one thinking that! Now that spring is here the backyard is definitely a trigger. I'm taking it in small doses right now. With all the new seasons come new triggers. THIS TOO SHALL PASS.
