I too am here to pay my respects to Bubba as this is where it all started over 5 years ago. He was my mentor, and my friend, he became a household name even though he lived thousands of miles away from me here in Ontario. I honestly feel had I not come to this site and read his Hall of Fame story so many years ago I would not be quit today. He was such and inspiration and the first person of his age that I ever knew to successfully quit smoking, he allowed me to believe I could do it too. Thank you Lindsey for taking me under your wing, my stats in memory of you! Five years, two weeks, six days, 13 hours, 50 minutes and 17 seconds. 36931 cigarettes not smoked, saving $9,232.88. Life saved: 18 weeks, 2 days, 5 hours, 35 minutes. Oh Katy, Kat and Melanie, I join you in remembering Bubba. You knew him better than I did, but I will always remember him popping in to brag and rejoice in his victories. What a great role model we had and still have. My heart is heavy for Bubba's family this morning and for those of you here who developed such close friendships with him here and away from here. I wasn't crazy about his methods but I always knew his heart was in the right place. He was so passionate about his quit. It will be different here not having him hop in from time to time to brag about his stats and continue to say 'it is worth it' in spite of his health problems.. Katy and Kat, I am so sorry. The three of you were the leaders and I appreciate it so much. Melanie Smoke-Free Days: 1714

I received word from Kat(from florida) this morning that Lindsey (Bubba) had passed away yesterday (Easter Sunday). Most of you new quitters never had the pleasure of corresponding with "bubba".....he had a quick wit, he wanted only for quitters to succeed, but he could sometimes seem cutting and tough. There were many extremely lively discussions way back when LOL. I met him at the beginning of my quit....January 2002....I developed quite a friendship with him and several others that joined the site around that time. Most of us still email each other. bubba struggled with illness over the last couple of years....then he lost his beloved wife....he never seemed quite the same to me afterwards. Numerous old members have hooked up for real time meetings and I know Bubba met with some. All of them reported him to be such fun and were immediately endeared to him. I am saddened that I never did meet him in person. so this is to you Bubba....you quit smoking in November of 2001 I believe. Although you were only a couple of months ahead of me, I was always rather in awe of your attitude about quitting. Many times when I was struggling your words inspired me. I know your memory will stick with me the rest of my days because my quit and everything around it is such a milestone in my life. I thank my Lord that you are at last at peace. I pray for the comfort of your family. You were an icon on this site back in it's beginning. Oh no! I haven't logged in for awhile, only to find out that Bubba is gone. Bubba was so instrumental in SO many people's quits. Bubba, rejoice in once again being in the arms of the woman you love. We will miss you. The cigarette I'm not smoking right now is for you. How deeply sad news. Some how I was hoping that Bubba would pull through the latest crisis yet again. Over the last years, he described several previous visits he had had in ITU. Bubba inspired and supported many people to quit smoking, and developed lasting friendships with a number of members here. He will be sorely missed and remembered with great affection and respect. We don't come here very often anymore - but after reading this together we realize that Bubba too paid a huge part in our quit. We thank you Bubba for your inspiration and encouragement. Condolences to Bubba's family - may he rest in peace and be joined now and forever with his beloved wife. attaboygirl and walkingeagle My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 756 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 22,701 Amount Saved: $4536 Life Gained: Days: 85 Hrs: 1 Mins: 37 Seconds: 17
