Well I`m back again for the second time. My names "HOPPY". The first time I had the desire but not much preparation. I saw my DOC yesterday and began Chantix this morning. I have been puffing the damn things for over 50 years and just couldn`t seem to figure out how to stop. I have read many of the posts and have begun to admire your determination. I am going to need all the help I can get. Hoppy, I'm a 30 year smoker who is has been "doing just fine without cigarettes" & I never in my life would have thought, that those words would ever come out of my mouth. It IS a mind game but you are learning how to take control & you'll beat this. It won't be easy but then nothing of this importance ever is easy. Be proud of your quit! My condolences on the loss of your friend. Heya Hoppy, I'm not a Chantix user but many here are using Chantix. I'll leave it to them to advise you there. Let me just say that it's so great that you're preparing to quit and when your quit day arrives, we'll be here for you. You CAN do this. You guys are super. Please don`t be too quick to pat me on the back yet cause I`ve just begun. This is the beginning of my 2nd day on Chantix. My doctor told me to continue smoking the first week and begin my stop date the beginning of the 2nd week. Does that sound right? I am reading alot here and started to do some of the things you have suggested, like drink lots of ice water. I know I am not required to stop this week but I`ve already noticed my awareness of my habit and yesterday only smoked 10. I know that sounds like a lot to you, but to me it`s about 30 less than normal. Today started at 6 am. Took the Chantix and it`s now almost noon and I have already smoked 2. I got the news this morning that a friend of mine passed away last nite. I sure am nervous, so I guess that`s my excuse. This stopping business is sure a mind game, or should I say it`s more like a full-blown tennis match going on in your head. I really do have the desire to stop after 53 years and want to get this thing right like you guys. I am sick and tired of spending the first waking hour in the morning coughing and gagging and spitting. Sorry for being so graphic. Thanks for being here.
