Thank you all so much! I have spent a good portion of the evening looking around and reading. There is a lot of good information here and I am very happy that I have found this site. I am really concerned about gaining weight. I know that should be the least of my concerns, but I have spent the last 3 months trying to get my weight down. I managed to drop 20 pounds and I am worried about gaining it back. I plan on staying on my same eating habits and hopefully it won't be an issue. I have alreay been watching/counting calories so maybe I need to drop the amount of calories that I eat for the next few weeks. Someone asked if I had set a quit date. I start my med tomorrow and was advised to wait a week to try to quit. With that said my quit date is April 18th. I have already been cutting back for a while now and made a few changes. I stopped smoking in my house back around Septemeber 2006 and I have cut back considerably, but have noticed over the past few weeks that I am slowly creeping back up. That is why I made the decision to talk to the doctor today. I think I need just a little help. Thank you all so much for the welcome. I look forward to getting to know you all!

Hello everyone! I just found this site today and wanted to introduce myself. For a while now I have had thoughts almost on a daily basis of quiting smoking. But, with those thoughts I always wondered if I know how to be a non-smoker. I am 33 years old and have been smoking for 15 years. Just last year I was told I have cervical cancer and had surgery and now I am a year cancer free. My parents, family, friends and I worry that becuase I have a history of cancer that my smoking will surely lead to cancer if I don't quit. Just last week I was very sick and ended up have a asthma attack at work. I have never in my life had an attack like that and have to say it really scared me not being able to breath! The doctor also told me that he was starting to see changes in my chest x-ray and that I really need to quit now. So, today I spoke to a doctor who perscribed Chantix and with that presription I feel very confident that I can do this.
