No one believes in me :(

Hello All!!! I haven't really been on here for a while..thats a lie..I just haven't been posting...and Ive been busy, what with the weather being so nice! I haven't been feeling up to par. Seems like I am the Opposite of last week. I was on such a "high" and now, I'm at a record low.. :( I guess this is normal??? Thats what Ive been reading anyways. Its not that I've been wanting to smoke. Actually the cravings are becomming fewer and fewer, which is why I'm suprised that I'm feeling so crappy... Whenever my friends or family call me, everyone of them asks me if I'm still quit, and I say "OF COURSE!" And almost every response I get is "WOW..I would have NEVER thought you would make it this far!!!" WTF is that supposed to mean?!? No believes in me??? What does that say about my friends and family? They think the worst of me!! I'm starting to think I should find some NEW friends who believe in me. I just feel like I'm so alone in this. My other friend who was quitting smoking with me, had a break-down, and started smoking again. My husband (who also quit with me) thinks its O.K. to smoke if he goes out to a club, and feels like having one. WTF?!? I told him, I dont think so! we are doing this together, and he tells me, well Jenn, (thats my name) I wasn't really addicted to cigarettes like you are, I only smoked when I was drinking... What an ass!!! And on top of it all when I told him that everyone thought I wouldn't make it this far, he says "I didn't think you could either!!" I just feel like telling everyone to "F--- OFF!!!" Thanks for letting me vent!! Genevieve Hang in there, listen to the other, it really does get easier. I remember what my first few days were like, and I hated it too. Hell I hated the first three weeks! And I have to work in front of someone in an open office who goes into the bathroom to smoke and then comes out and sits down to work, thinking that I can't smell his cigs! Well boy is he wrong. He knows I quit but that doesn't matter to him. And the worst part is I can't say a thing, he signs my paychecks! Anyway, try distractions, reading, watching movies, going for walks anything that will get your mind on something else until the crave passes, and it will pass. Trust me! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 29 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 740 Amount Saved: $145 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 3 Mins: 13 Seconds: 35

Trust us, genevieve, it will get better. Some days it's not gonna seem like it, but it really will. I never thought I would be here on day 44, still a non-smoker, but here I am. You can do this too, so can hempfiend, and so can everyone else who really wants to. Hello hempfield, Bit late entering this discussion but I was pleased to find your posting (I'm still struggling with the site and spend inordinate amounts of time wandering around it trying to work out what to do). I first told my best friend about the whole quit thing and at first she was pleased for me - and impressed at my 'cold turkey' approach because she has been on the gum for 5 and a half years. Then I told her about this site and today she doesn't want to talk to me about it cos I've got my 'new smoking friends'... I told my Mother yesterday that I was giving up and she didn't respond AT ALL and my partner doesn't seem moved one way or the other, except I suppose he's cut down a bit. I haven't actually said anything to my daughter but she and boyfriend don't seem to have noticed that I am not smelling of smoke any more which is interesting. I called the local Health Centre to find out about a support group and they sent me a leaflet and it had the WRONG NUMBER on it so I couldn't get through. I suppose, in the face of such indifference one is tempted to say ' Why bother?' and I just took an old guy to his clinic. Approaching 90, smokes 15 cigarillos a day and drinks a half bottle of rum with peppermint. Only on day 3 so still missong it like mad. The people that knew me before I quit had the same reaction, "OMG, I can't believe you of all people quit smoking!" ME of all people?!? I didn't know whether or not to take offense at being singled out like that, so I mulled it over for a while, and here's what I came up with. I was a dedicated smoker. I planned my life around my addiction and I didn't care who knew. "Sammi, wanna go to that new restaurant on Main Street?" "No, they don't have outside seating, so let's go to the one on Maple, they have a porch so I can smoke." Stuff like that. To the nonsmokers, I'm sure they thought I was a chain-smoker, since I rarely skipped a smoke. I might make it through a 90-minute movie but then I'd be racing outside to light up. I was the last through security at the airport and the first to run outside and light up after the flight. My life was ruled by my withdrawals and anyone nearby could see that clearly. So YEAH it IS a big life-change and YEAH it IS a surprise for them to see me smokeFREE. And so YEAH it's not a cut-down, it's a compliment. It's an acknowledgement of how far I've come since my days of enslavement. I'm FREE for the first time since they've KNOWN ME, some of them for thirty years!! "Me of all people." :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 87 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,631 Amount Saved: $261 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 0 Mins: 33 Seconds: 41

Heya Hemp, That very thing just happened to me today. I told my brother how long I've been quit now and he said, "I can't believe you've really given up smoking." You know, that didn't hurt my feelings at all. His statement just told me that he realizes how hard it is to quit smoking. He realizes how strong the addiction is and his statement actually made me feel stronger for fighting so hard. In a way, his statement acknowledged just how hard this fight is and how hard I have been fighting. I hope that makes sense. I don't believe people make these comments to hurt you. They just know how hard it is to Quit such a horrible addiction. Let their shock and dismay strengthen you even more. Stay Strong and WE do believe in you!!
