Who are the Febuary 07 Quitters?

17 years ago 0 79 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I had another BIG trigger at work the other night. It was a very bad night and, long story short, I was in tears. Not that it happens often, but normally, if I became overwhelmed by my moods I would just go outside and smoke, take deep breaths and relax my emotions away. Someone offered to take me out for a smoke and I whined "but I don't smoke anymore!" and worked myself through it. I wound up washing my face, deep breathing and eventually just working my way through it, and ultimately it never escaped my attention that I got through it without smoking. Fortunately, I'm now off for 3 days and I can regroup. Hope all the mothers had a great weekend. I will let you all know about pool night this week!! ~Carolyn My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 81 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,227 Amount Saved: $364.5 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 19 Mins: 45 Seconds: 36

Happy Mother's Day to all of the Mom's here and to everyone else, have a wonderful day celebrating the day with your families. Best of all, this a smoke free Mother's Day for us. Yee Hah. I have been so busy taking care of my daughter and running here and there that I haven't been able to post. I want to give everyone the latest news. Kate had to go to a specialist and he could clearly see a tear in the placenta and he said this tear should heal. He said the tear is the cause for the cramping and spotting. He told Kate the things she can and cannot do until the tear heals but, she can go back to work. (She's not to exercise or lift anything over 5 lbs.) The baby's spinal cord was also a worry. The OB here was concerned about Spina Bifida but she said that the spot she was worried about could also be a blur on the spinal cord on the sonogram. The specialist could see the spinal cord and, at this point, thinks everything is okay but Kate is to go back to see him in two weeks when the spinal cord is more developed. (Please pray about that for us.) Also, my little grandbaby is a granddaughter!!! Her name will be Bailey and I just think that's too cute for words. Things are starting to look up and the worries are falling away now. The only thing we're still concerned about is the baby's spinal cord but, the specialist is very optimistic about that too. Thank you all so much for your prayers. Those prayers kept us strong. They kept me smoke free too!!!! The cravings got pretty bad from time to time but, I kept myself busy and I knew you guys were praying for me. Ooh, lilacs. Sometimes I envy you "southerners," MomMom. My tulips and daffodils are still blooming up here. But the wood thrushes are singing - and that's a music so beautiful it almost hurts. Now that my sense of smell has gotten even sharper, I want to start planting for scent. Anyone have recommendations for zone 4? Thanks for the reminder, Legend. I am not going to hit that 100 day pot hole. I think it's something that happens to "other people" and not to me. Since I live up (or down) to my own expectations, this is the only way I can face it. First I have to enjoy this weekend. It's been a l-o-n-g week...I think they stuck an extra day in there and didn't tell me! Maybe Sweetheart will get that bike of mine put together....or maybe not. He has several honey-do projects outside, so of course tomorrow he is going fishing (yes, without me, it's a male bonding thing...but we are going walleye fishing next weekend)so I will have all day Saturday by myself. That is NOT a bad thing, trust me. I hope you all have an equally wonderful weekend. Lilacs are blooming, and I can smell them from across the yard. Love being a non-smoker! Heads up! Been reading around, seems like there's a bit of a glitch approaching the 100 day mark for a lot of people. Fill your water bottles, tighten your seat belts, have your coping strategies handy... Nursey, I've been thinking about some of the same stuff...about being an anti-smoking ex-smoker. Like you, I never liked the uppity ex-smokers. Then I became one. Like you, I don't like having cigarette smoke around me. Like those fishermen I ran into. Man, it just stank! Thank goodness I was outside, I would have gagged. Anyway, I now don't want smoke anywhere around me, and, frankly, I don't mind saying so. I think it's good to have attitude. To tell you the truth, I better understand why I didn't like uppity ex-smokers before. It was because I wanted to stop and I was pissed that they could do what I thought I couldn't and so I couldn't stand them being on that pedestal and showing off how much better they are than me (I am a legend in my own mind, you know). So I'm not going to be in anybody's face about it and go around telling people they should quit. That's just rude. But I am being firm about my personal boundaries, and well, that includes not smoking around me. Whew! Didn't quite realize when I began that all that was going to come out... So what happened last night? Did you go? Hi Feb Friends! Tutti - my prayers have been and continue to be with you and your family. I hope Kate is staying positive & strong. Nurse - I'm sorry that you're struggling today and having to deal with cravings - I hate that! I know that you'll stay tough tonight, you've done it time and time again. I also hope that you don't give up pool - it seems to be such a significant part of your life. So many places are turning smoke-free...hopefully that will happen in your area. Legend - Thanks for asking about me - I'm still around and still 100% smokefree. RT, Quilt, & Mommom - It's always great to see posts from you. I feel such a sense of family from us Februarians! Whynot - Check in and say hi - I miss you! What about the rest of the gang...how are you? What's new? Cigarettes Not Smoked

17 years ago 0 79 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
It's playoff night, and it's only 1:30 in the afternoon and I'm already craving a cig. What is wrong with me?! I'm not going to do it, in fact, I don't even think I want to stay at pool long, because I talked to a doctor at the hospital the other night and he seems to think that my waking up short of breath has everything to do with being in smoky places. When I was a smoker, I used to get all bothered by 'uppity' non-smokers who would give me a look or an attitude about my smoking in front of them. Now that I'm on the other side of the table, I agree with them. I try not to get an attitude, but these smokers who make no attempt to keep their smoke away from me don't have to wake up with me in the middle of the night and dive for an inhaler. I can't believe it, but with as bad as my symptoms can get, I'm actually contemplating leaving the pool league...or at least moving to a region that is smoke-free in the bars. I've been shooting since I was 21. I met my husband because of pool league. This is a very difficult decision for me, and it bugs the s*&t out of me to have to change my lifestyle to such a degree just to feel healthy. But, it's starting to get to the point where I don't look forward to pool nights as much as I once did because I know I'm going to pay for the exposure to smoke later. I can't believe those words just left my fingers! By the way, Tutti, I'm glad your daughter is getting better news. It's a shame she has to deal with such things at only 13 weeks! I hope the rest of her pregnancy goes smoothly! Good job staying smoke-free through all of this stress! Stay quit, all!
