4 1/2 days to go

OK, NOW the quit meter should be reset. Seeing that 3 day quit gave me a feeking of sadness: "I could've been a non-smoker for three days now". I'll take that as an indication I'm ready to make this work. Hi Kev, I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. Had planned my quit date for the 7th and didn't quit because of a multiple stressful changes ongoing in my life. Also, my plans for spending the day on Saturday got changed because of family. Not trying to make excuses but... Anyway, I'm planning to give the evil cancer sticks the 'ol heave ho in about 24 hours. So, our timing (and postponement)is similar. I'll be checking in to see how you're doing and feeling. And I'll let you know how I'm progressing. You're not in this fight alone, Kev!! Definitely find something to do rather than go to the pub. Maybe you should just go to the pictures a lot. Try drinking orange cordial and soda with lots of ice. V. cheap and you can make a pint last a long time. Don't know a replacement for JD's. I had to give up completely on the drink 3 years ago (anniversary this coming August)so quitting the fags too is really hard but you have to just decide and do it - no matter how many are left in the packet and what your friends in the pub are saying. Don't you just love the confidence with which I just said that! I am on day 13 and it's hard but I KNOW it is worth it. Today's your day. :eg: My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 13 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 210 Amount Saved: 91 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 17 Mins: 18 Seconds: 20

Legend, I thought that was the case. I was reading an article about things that you would do to your worst enemy smoker. So its true then. I shall not be going down that route. Tutti, you're soooo right about the pub thing. I really am not that strong. And I found out the hard way again. Seems that I have a short memory! :) With reference to destroying whole packs, i'll give it a go. I'll call it the 'tutti style' :) I hope the humour won't be too thin on the ground. I see the pre-quit fear factor is a common occurence on the threads around here, but the positivity and warm simple outweighs anything I have ever seen. Lots of smileys for everyone :) :) :) Just about to watch curse of warerabbit to close off the evening. Speak to you all tomorrow. JDK said: "Btw, any views on the cut down one at a time = eternal withdrawal? i.e. is there any validity in it?" Kev, let me put it to you this way. I tried that method for about 6 months before I finally up and quit. I would get down to one a day, then one every other day, then one every 4-5 days...and then it would start coming back at me, and I'd be puffing away at 5-6 a day again, then I would battle it down to one a day...you get the idea. It was 6 months of utter hell. On me, on my family, on the people I work with. See, cocky fool that I am, I thought I could control my addiction. That I could become one of those people you here about that have one every couple of weeks, or when they go out to a bar...(those people don't exist, btw. They are an urban myth. It's always a friend of a friend who is able to do that, and the few people I've met directly who do claim that capacity...are lying). What in fact happened, was that I extended that period of physical withdrawal -- what folks around here call Hell Week -- into 6 months. Six months of constant physical withdrawal. I had Hell Half Year. All because I was afraid of letting go of that last cigarette, that friend who would never let me down, that constant companion, that good buddy who was killing me by inches and making me suffer every inch of the way. When I finally let go -- and let go completely -- for one week, I began to see how foolish my thinking was, how full of junkie lying trash I was. So, to make a short story long, my advice to you would be: Put the pack down. Walk away. And Don't Look Back. Kevin, Now this is just a hunch but maybe you should avoid the pubs while you're at the beginning of your quit. ;) I have to say this and I don't want to sound like a smarty pants but, you've set your quit date for Wednesday so that you can smoke the cigarettes you have right now. Why not destroy those cigarettes now and get on with your quit? What if you go 9 days without a cigarette and then someone offers you one or leaves a pack at your house? I don't think you can plan your quit around the smokes you have on hand. I think you should test your committment and put your quit before any cigarettes that you have on hand. Kevin, I too am new in my quit, and yes I have tried many many times. Each time I thought I had it licked, then went out drinking - and then reached for a ciggie, and then smoked - and eventually went and got a whole pack. It is not the way to go. However, I have now found I can go drinking without smoking - some people can, others can't - you know you best. I found I can have a few - keeping cognizant I will not smoke - and stick to it. How? I do not pretend to know all the answers, but to me I go one day at a time. Each day, I cannot and will not have a cigarrette. I don't like to think about the week or the month, just one day and that day is today. Do craves come? Sure, but now less and less. Do the thinkings of wow, I could do just one? come? Sure. But I need to be committed and do this for me - just like you do for you. Protect your quit and realize you can do this - one day at a time or one hour at a time. Certainly you can make it through one hour? And you can.

Hi All, me again. Well I have to say that I sucked at my last attempt(s). I lasted about 6 hrs on Sunday and 7hrs on Monday before caving. I will of course be trying again very soon. I do this every day it seems now. CallMeMomMom was right about the pub being a major trigger. I should avoid it at all costs until I am stronger. There are only so many wordsearches you can do I have found out. :) On the positive side of things, all this talk about sunflower seeds means that I am now growing some sunflowers! Martha, yes I am about 8 hours ahead of you. I'm in Portsmouth, England. And I will take your advice to take it one day at a time, i'm thinking more one hour at a time at the moment. I'm also trying not think 'this is quit no. 56 etc' Btw, any views on the cut down one at a time = eternal withdrawal? i.e. is there any validity in it? Thanks for all the posts of support btw. I've got that covered I think. I already installed a bunch of wordsearch books down the pub last week. Complete with loads of pens. No time for smoking when you're looking for those words. My nickname here is JDK which is short for Jack Daniels Kev :) I got that nickname because that is all I drink. However, it will switch to cola with ice Kev soon. IF I go down, it will be when my newly quit barmaid is working. And only stay an hour or two instead of 8 or 10 hours. I'll also occupy my time by hitting the jukebox with anything i can. It annoys the heck out of the regulars (normally because I stick on something like Pantera and then Britney Spears :) ) but they will have to get used to it being more regular. Lainey, always good advice about leaving it a while though. That is the sensible option. I'm more likley to go running for the first week or so. Btw, you didn't clarify if you meant 2 or 3 minutes or hours :) Down to 6 left now. I am making a mental note of what I won't miss. See ya'll tomorrow. Kind Regards Kevin p.s. I will also give the Instant Messenge a go. New toy, new toys!
