Back on Chantix

jnine, This is your quit and you need to do what is right for you. If you need Chantix in your weapon bag to help you fight nicodemon then go for it. Whatever it takes. The important thing is that you are not smoking. To me that is amazing with a smoker in the house. I do realize that there will still be craves but when someone else in the house smokes and there are packs aroung and butts around it does not help. I am still kicking ash but I felt that I did need a little more time for myself to get used to being a none smoker. The chantix was the best thing that I have ever tried to quit smoking. I know I can do this and my Pharmacy manager checked into it and it will not hurt to stay on it for extra time if needed. I don't mean to be crabby but I hope , no I will kick this habit this time. I hate the smell of a person that is smoking. I never knew I smelt so bad. Unpacked, First off it's important for you to understand that Chantix is an aid. You may still have some cravings so it's important to get ready for them by having a few coping strategies and distractions at the ready. That said, some members do experience a few days of adjustment with an increase in cravings after they step down from Chantix. Some do not. Members have found it helpful to get back to basics and employ the same coping strategies that got them through the first few weeks of their quit. Tapering the Chantix itself is also something you can talk to your doctor about to help make the transition easier. Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

I'm also using Chantix and it's been much easier compared to other quit attempts. No side effects at all except for a touch of nausea at the start. I do understand that Chantix not only blocks nic receptors but also gives a mild dopamine boost to ward off cravings. So this discussion--a Chantix "exit strategy--is something i would really appreciate information on, since I'll be going down that road in a few weeks. I imagine any sudden drop in dopamine (abrupt stop to Chantix) will kick in some cravings. I was lucky and get the med covered by my employer so I'm also wondering about going for a longer time on Chantix (I believe this option is sometimes suggested for patients who've remained smoke free for 120 days). Anyway, my job right now is to stay focused on the "here and now." But there will be a time when I'll need a Chantix exit strategy-- and thats where you battle-hardened vets can give give a big hand to us noobs! Jnine, Just know that you can do it. I came off early (week two) due to side effects. I know that all quits are different. We will also have different experiences coming off the Chantix. I have faith in you. Keep positive thoughts as you wean yourself off the drug. See you on the beach my friend. I am still at the start of my Chantix, but I was wondering how things go once you are done with it. Please keeep us informed on how it works weaning off Chantix. I am going to talk to my doc about not just ending it at the end but weaning down. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am trying to stay prepared for what is to come and it is so good to hear what other have gone through or are going through. Thank you. jnine, From others experience, I am currently weaning myself. I have another couple weeks to go on my initial 3 month Rx, and I am taking one pill per day until they are gone. No problem so far, but it's only been a few days. I'll be anxious to hear about your experience.
