4 1/2 days to go

Kev Have you apologized to Rachel and promised to never even think about destroying her quit? Good. You know what they say about 'payback', and none of us would want someone to deliberately try to sabotage our quit. Now, about your quit...work through each craving, one at a time. You have been given many tools by your friends on this site, so try each one until you find the one that works for you. Trust me, the craves do become weaker and less frequent and easier to dismiss. Now, about the pub...if you can't bear to stay away, at least get up every time you have a crave and do something...a short walk, a potty break, something to pass the time rather than sitting there wishing you could smoke. Go get some fresh clean air into those lungs! Focus on the positive aspects of your quit, as hard as it is at first, and don't spend a lot of time thinking about your last smoke, how long it's been, how hard it is, etc. You are saving your life! The benefits will become evident sooner than you can imagine. Give yourself a fighting chance. Don't test yourself until you are ready. Are you ready? Good. iwanttobefree, sounds like you had a good time. I remember having my fish and chips being blown away by that hovercraft. When it goes, it goes big time. The new forest is great. Watch out for them ponies though, they do have a mind of their own. :) If you ever find High Corner Inn then it is worth popping down with the kids as they have a great childrens menu and a huge pub garden, ponies included. Having children seems to be a great way to cure boredom, unfortunately I would have to wait 9 months and by then I hope to be well into my quit :) I've added you to my buddy list btw, now that I know how to do it properly. You'd never think that i'm an IT specialist sometimes. Keep up the quit, you're doing really well. The weather will be good for at least a week, so I recommend a rounders rematch. This post is especially for Tutti. I have taken your advice. And thrown an almost entire packet of cigarettes in the bin. I've promised myself that I will not go searching for them afterwards. Plus it would be embarrasing to do so in front of all my work mates. :) Half of me is thinking I should call for the men in white coats now. :) Right while I am on the subject here are my triggers : #1 Boredom (work, home, pub) #2 Stress (same as above) Here's my get-out strategies : Work : Spend a lot of time rambling here. Go for a nice tea. Have a walk around. Pub : Don't go there for a while (note to self : that means a long while), if I do eventually go. Drink orange and lemonade with ice as it lasts longer. Home : Listen to chillout music, play chess, watch High School Musical again and again and again :) Watch any DVD you can lay your hands on. Kev mantra's in times of severe cravings : 'Feeling is healing' 'Rave don't crave' Things to think about in times of craving : 'does N.O.P.E really mean No Office Parties Ever'? 'Who apart from me is spending their lives on this site'? 'does my post really need that many expletives'? :) 'Wouldn't it be great to reach century beach and still be spending a lot of time helping others get there'? hi again no pompey didnt have to much of an affect on my hell week lol, i have been going down there since i was a child and now take my own kids down there they love the amusments and funfair, but like i said in my earlier post it is good for blowing away cobwebs and clearing your thoughts especially when that hovercraft comes in lol. On another positive note can i say that in the last 5 weeks my whole way of thinking has changed and with this nice weather we have been haveing i have wanted to get out more so we went out to the new forest and played footy ,rounders ,frizbee, ect and it realy does take your mind of smokeing but the best bit is being able to breath in the fresh air and being able to run without being breathless. I think if you have a good circle of friends with some trying to quit as well you all have to make changes to your routine, i did and it has been working for me i can go in to a pub and be proud that im not smokeing or scanning around restaurants looking to see where i could smoke. good luck in your quit :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/3/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 38 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 766 Amount Saved: 193.8 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 10 Mins: 58 Seconds: 20

Hi iwanttobefree, You know I had never thought about that! Great idea. You've just thought of something I could do as a partial replacement for the pub. What did you think of Pompey btw? I hope the hell week didn't affect your view of it. Generally its not all bad. Maybe Boris Johnson was having a hell week too :) :) Btw, thats a great quit counter. Thinking in music terms, thats enough for a really nice ipod! Btw, I live in Portchester which is on the middle part of the mouth. It's knitting needle country, which is why I spend most of my time in Pompey. My virtual local is 'The Contented Pig' near the church. Virtual because it takes me an hour to get there by bus, but to hear live bands it is worth it. Kind Regards kev (rambling again) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: 0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Hi Gen, OJ & Lemonade with ice, sound nice! In all honesty, i'm more likely to arguing about why they can't have the footie on silent and have the jukebox on, or why I am really not wearing this shirt for Comic Relief :) Btw, before I start my quit again I had better get some confessions out of the way. Confession #1 : So we have three people in my pub trying to quit. Dagmara, the barmaid; Rachael, the customer, and me. Dagmara has gone over three months without smoking a single cigarette. She's well on her way to what smokers call century beach. Rachael had quit for 3 weeks. That was until the alcohol started flowing and the generous guy at the end of the bar offered her cigarettes at 5 minute intervals. Yes, she ended up caving and has smoked like a chimney since then. Depressed that she was weak but always wanting to give up. I have hope that she will succeed eventually, and this is a public apology from me, because yes I was the guy at the end of the bar. Btw, this is also the reason why not going to the pub for at least a month is a very good idea. Well thats confession 1 out of the way. No. Believe me. I know about pubs and the British culture. I live it too. I drink Orange cordial and soda(and I have seen grown men drink it too) or - If I'm feeling really wild - I have J20!! You can still drink and argue about penalties if that's what turns you on. What about a bag of soft liquorice sticks (from Morrisons and/or Lakeland) which give you something else to do with your hands...... Hi Mike, Thats great. I think it helps having someone else quit at roughly the same time. We can work this through together. I'll add you to the IM list too. It does sound like we're going through the same stages btw. I too think that is 3 days I could have been a non-smoker. Post here as much and as often as you like. I will be doing the same. I've realised that my thread title was a bit stupid now :) Kev My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: 0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Hi genevieve, 13 days is a major accomplishment! Keep at it. I think everyone here is absolutely right about the no pub thing. Unfortunately, pub culture seems to be very much ingrained into the british way of life. I'm way more of a fan of tea than JD btw, just try asking for one in a pub :) The bottles I get bought as gifts just sit in the cupboard waiting for someone else to drink. So there you go, i should really be called TK instead of JDK :) I guess it is more of a case of what to do with the extra time on a weekend that normally be filled with chain-smoking/drinking/arguing about whether that was a penalty :) Kind Regards Kev JD/Kev Tea :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: 0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0
