First time to post / Chantix

Hello Shakes and welcome! I am also a Chantix user. Started it on April 10th and quit smoking on April 18. I have really been surprised at how well it works for me. I was really concerned that it wasn't going to work or that I wasn't going to be able to quit. So far everything has worked well. I too have wondered what it was going to be like when my Chantix days are over, but I really feel that it will go smoothly. Welcome to SSC Shakes! WOW! 31 days on that quit meter are looking fantastic. My husband and I quit about a week before you and we are also using Chantix. There are some posts that talk about stopping Chantix if you browse through the board. My husband's doctor participated in the studies for Chantix. Last week, he told my husband that he recommended taking the medication for a full six months and that statistically, patients were more successful if they took the full six months. But then again, every person is unique and you should consult with your own doctor. Don't be shy Shakes....we're all in the same situation here. I personally do more reading than posting, but do what works best for you. Again Congrats on your smoke free month!! Big Welcome to the Shy Shakes! If you've been reading for a while you know that Phil is NOT shy, but he is one of our biggest cheerleaders. He is on his third or fourth set of pom poms, but we made him get rid of the boots and short skirt...it was just too much! You can usually find him in the stable with Mr. Ed if you need him. Lots of Chantix users here, including me. Just stopped it about a week ago without any problems other than a need to sleep a little more for a few days. The med was great, and my quit would have been so much more difficult without it. I suggest that you do the entire program of 12 weeks, even if you feel like you don't need it after the first month or so. Use the search function to find other messages about chantix...there are a lot, and you can read how other people have reacted to the med. You have a great quit going...congratulations! I can see that you will succeed this time...the others were just practice. This time you have us (and Phil) to help you! Post often....don't be shy! So, I've read a lot of the discussions here in the last month. I've been encouraged to see all of the support. It's really great. I thought I should make myself post something. I've been too shy to before now. I don't know. I guess I felt it would be embarrassing if I failed or something? I have tried to quit, like, six times in the last two years. But this is the longest I've gone without a cigarette. Without even a puff. I'm doing well. I'm using Chantix, and this is the first time I've tried any kind of outside support. I check out my glove compartment daily, and it's been a treasure. To see my streak so far makes it so much easier throughout the day to not want to mess it up. Has anyone else used Chantix? How long did you use it? And was the transition really difficult coming off of it? Alright: my first post. Right on. I can dig it. ;p --Shakes My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 31 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 623 Amount Saved: $279 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 22 Mins: 18 Seconds: 23
