You go Misha! You can do it. If your strong enough to raise children your strong enough not to smoke. I swear by theese things I got called "Tea Tree Chewing Sticks" I bought them at Wild Oats (all naturaul grocery place) They are toothpicks coated with this naturaul opil thats like a strong menthol. They actually give you a small mthol type buzz in your gums/mouth so its very similar to a cigarette but not bad for you. I know it was way too young. My kids are 13 and 14 and are thrilled that I'm doing this, I just pray that they will see me go through this hell and never pick up one. I honestly don't remember when I didn't smoke, it was like a part of me, I'm trying to learn this all for the first time. I am getting through it somehow though, I even did 50 situps this morning!!!! Yay Me, lol. So I am going to hang in there, as tough as it is. Thanks again everyone misha

Wow, you started so young. You need to recreate a lot of patterns to not include smoking. If you haven't already, make use of the workbook to the left. Identify as many trigger situations as you can and come up with a list of ideas to help with each of them. Also, nurture yourself right now. Your body is going through some major healing and you need to take care of yourself. Take a nap, go to sleep early, soak in a bath, watch a funny movie, etc... Expect to be tired and not have a lot of energy for a while. It WILL pass. You can do this - but you need to prepare! Misha, You did a great job of getting through those cravings. Pampering yourself is so important. I'm so glad your partner is encouraging you and is such a huge support to you too. I'm 46 too but I only smoked for 27 years!! ;p Man, I wish I'd never taken that first puff. It wasn't so cool lookin' after all. Keep posting as often as you can. You're doing a great job and you're almost through the worst of it. No, you don't want to feel like that again. Misha, congratulations on making the sane decision to stop smoking. The first week is hard, no doubt about it. It's something we all have gone through and come out the other end the better and the stronger for it. Read here a lot, it will help. This board has gotten me through any number of tough craves. We're all here to help.

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Thanks everyone, I went out for awhile, and my wonderful supportive partner bought me candy and books, and I felt better, the cravings actually passed. I find I am eating far too much, but hopefully that will pass soon. Tomorrow evening after dinner we're going to go for a nice long walk, with the weather finally turning nice, I feel that will be a positive step. I do know it's normal to feel this way, I never ever want to go through this again. I'm 46, have smoked for 37 years, yes, I started when I was nine years old!!! Sick isn't it? I always meant to quit, just never got around to it, now is the time, while I still have lungs left. I have to keep remembering this, and Hopefully I can make it, like all you wonderful people have. Thanks for the words of encouragement, they really helped a lot!!!! misha- I just turned 56 years young, have smoked since in high school, for the most part 1-2 packs a day. I quit cold turkey, NO SLIPS, so YOU can do this! Stay close to this site and read old posts, as what you are going through is what most of us have experienced. I know exactly where YOU are, friend. Just hold on tight, come here to vent, find some distractions, do some journaling - as they can save a quit in the toughest times. I painted my house, cleaned the bathroom grout with a toothbrush and bleach, cried, slept, walked (helps alot!) - just find what works for you! Post and ask for advice - it's right here! When we quit, we begin to learn how to cope and feelings (especially anger) come up for us to deal with -as our smokescreen has worked as a buffer -- keeping our real feelings and emotions in a fog...
