Hey, Angelcapp, That sounds like a great reward. A nice warm bath with loads of bubbles and oil and stuff is a great way to unwind. [generalisation] Btw, male folk (like me) are prone to forgetting everything every now and then. Especially take out the rubbish day/anniversaries/children. He may have something really nice planned but just forgot. I'd just stop doing the laundry and when he asked where his clean shirt is just say 'i forgot' :) This will of course start him thinking back as to what he didn't do in the last month or so :) .. oh man, that was the female side in me coming out [/generalisation] My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: 0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

During my first 3 weeks, I was rewarding myself every night when I went to bed by giving myself a little mental pat on the back, and just congratulating myself on being a non-smoker all day. Sometimes I had to make myself smile about that, but I did. And, while the next thing isn't exactly a reward, it does fall under the general heading of motivation: I have created, in my mind, an image of myself as who I want to be as a non-smoker. You know, handsome, sexy, a bon vivant with a bit of an edge and no cigarette in his fingers. Every day that I don't smoke, I bring myself closer to that image, and that is kind of a reward, too. See, where I made my mistake was asking my husband for money so i could reward myself, since I am broke this month. He said he had something planned! Well that was at least two weeks ago. So I guess if I don't reward myself it will never happen. Here goes that bubble bath & movie! Audrey, Having been a smoker in the past, the reward method has helped not only myself, but many non-smokers. The reward does not have to be huge, but it does help us get through the day and focus more on the reward and not temptation. It is quite funny that you have mentioned this because my husband just quit "chewing". He made his month mark this past Sunday and I made him a cake. He looked at me and said, "ah, it is not my birthday?" I then told him about the reward process and the fact that he was 1 month quit. He enjoyed the reward and is looking forward to his 2 month being quit. I am sure his next reward will be more than a cake. It is baseball season and I am sure he will think of something nice for himself. Members, quitting smoking is tough. If the reward method works for you then great! If not, then that is ok as well :). Whatever suits you best during your quit, stick with it! Cheers, Melanie ________________________________ The SSC Support Team

same here...just going about my usual life..without smoking, thank you very much! the reward thing is a bit foreign to me......why reward myself for doing something I should have been doing all along? sometimes, it feels like i am doing something wrong by not naming/giving myself a reward Can anyone help me/others understand why we should be giving ourselves an external reward? And help me/us deal with the guilt for not doing so? Sometimes a deep breath is enough of a reward when you don't have time for anything else! Or a look in the mirror to see a ruddy complexion rather than grey and sallow. On my big milestones, I've mostly spent the day repeating that number like a mantra. 'It's 90 days today, three months without a cigarette...' I guess what I'm trying to say is the rewards don't always have to be complicated and planned, sometimes it's enough to take a look at the here and now and be grateful and proud of yourself! Rewards are a tricky thing. You will have to find out what works best for you when it comes to making yourself appreciate your decision to quit each day......Because that's what a reward does, it makes you feel good about what a good job you have done, but it also draws attention to it and gives you the chance to think about how you have benefited in this process.... maybe i'm not making any sense now..
