Now I'm addicted to FOOD!!

16 years ago 0 54 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I'm really happy that I've given up the cigs. I really am, lol. But I am so fed up that I have swapped it for food. Before I gave up smoking I put on two stone because I had a hernia and was worried, after I had the op for that I managed to lose two stone easily... I gave up smoking and now I'm a stone heavier again. It doesn't sound much but it could be more. I can tell it is some sort of psychological response to giving up the cigarettes but not sure how to deal with it. When I stopped smoking I stopped completely. Obviously. But with eating you can't STOP completely, can you? So I find it hard to stop eating rubbish because that is all I seem to crave. Maybe because I know I can eat it I am letting myself.. I'm just so annoyed with myself!! I want to wear some nice clothes for the summer. I went out the other weekend and four, yes FOUR people asked me when I was due!! lol I shall have to take the advice I gave someone here about having some carrot sticks and celery ready for use in the day.. but then I think I ewould still crave crisps.. ..I can see that I really have swapped the addiction. It's funny just typing my thoughts out here are helping me get through to the problem. I hope no-one minds me using this thread as a way to do that. :) If you want to add any ideas to help me think it through please, please do! :) Thanks. Thanks kiwi and windy. :) I am feeling a bit better today. I think you may be right kiwi. I think there was still part of me that was still missing it and kind of clinging to the memory. Thanks for saying that about my stats.. I think yours are amazing!! What I said about how I should change something is to do with my partner... Something that will have to be dealt with if I want to be really happy. Sorry nothing to do with smoking or over eating but is part of my reason for feeling down. Windy. Your stats are amazing too. Blimey. Don't give in will you? You are doing so well. :) I hope you are having a good weekend windy. Did you go any where nice? I agree with you we do need something that makes us feel better at the end of the day. A nice attentive man would be a good start, lol! I've bought some rice cakes, I'm hoping the fact that they are so boring will quieten my need to eat in the evening. Fingers crossed.. ;) I hope we all catch up soon, lovely chatting with you all. Take care and have fun where you can! :) :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 158 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,967 Amount Saved: 869 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 18 Mins: 28 Seconds: 19

Hi exile - Hope you are feeling better...Had a whopper of a day yesterday and was ready to throw in the towel. I don't know if food addiction is replacing cigarette addiction but honestly, my stomach is growling and when I smell food, it's even worse. I used to be a big eater during the day and a small eater at night but now that I have quit smoking, I need to save calories for the evening. (Trying to balance out the eating because I need to and the eating for comfort - We really need to have SOMETHING that makes us feel better at the end of the day) Anyway, I do hope you are feeling better. I am away on the weekend but will be checking in when I get back. Exile, Some side effects of being a non-smoker.... Food just tastes so damn good ! This emotional side of us just pops up out of now where which requires nurturing (& this is the hardest part). After reading your recent posts it sounds more to me like you are experiencing the '3 month itch', It's the last hurdle & it happens to everyone of us :8o:
I think there are things that I would like to change but I can't find a way of doing these things without hurting many people around me
Exile, sorry i'm a bit confused by this - can you please explain. Oh & by the way... Your stats are quite amazing, you shouldbe very proud of yourself. Thanks guys! :) It brought a tear to my eye reading your replies.. Sorry, I'm in that sort of a mood today. ;) If I feel happy I don't feel like eating. What you were saying about hunger being the same as nicotine addiction, I agree, before I quit I was smoking more and more and somedays I was finishing one packet in the morning, smoking another packet all the way through and then starting another packet in the evening! I heard something about how having a food addiction (and I think possibly all addictions) is a way of suppressing our feelings - keeping them out of the way. I think there are things that I would like to change but I can't find a way of doing these things without hurting many people around me. It doesn't matter what these things are that I feel I need to do to make me happy, just that they are there. I don't know if any other fellow 'sufferers' (for want of a better word :) feel that way about anything in their lives. Something that they just can't bear to think about because it hurts too much? I'm having one of those days! :) :)

Tell people you are due on tuesday ! seriously, Nicotine Cravings are exactly the same as hunger cravings, youcannot tell the diffrenece. you are addicted to nicotine + you are hungry = :8o: eat lots of fuit & veg, drink lots of water & do 20 minutes of exercise a day ie, walking, running, cycling whatever.. just move about to burn off the excess love handles.
