Lavndr, You won't believe how wonderful being free from smoking is until you try it! It is the best feeling ever, to go through your day without being tied to a lighted stick that is killing you by inches. We're rooting for you! Check in often and early, do not give up until you've checked in here, even just to read. That's what saved me many times. Welcome to a great place! I also take Chantix. I am on my 8th day of being smoke free because of it! I smoked for 30 yrs and most of those years were 2 packs a day. chantix is a great drug but you also have to want to NOT smoke more than you want to smoke. It's a great leg up on things. I never thought i'd be able to break the terrible nicotine addiction. Thank you everyone for the support. I am sure it is gonna help with this journey of no smoking. When I filled out the survey thing, it said that 1% of women smoke or have smoked more than me! What an eye opener. That is at what I currently smoke, not when I was @ 4 pks per day. WOW... Anyway.... On day 2 of Chantix. I have only smoked 9 sticks today..in over 12 hours...Double WOW... Again, thanks everyone for the support... :) ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/19/2007 Smoke-Free Days: -19 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

lavndr, welcome and congratulations on beginning your journey! Yes, we have all experienced the shame of addiction, so you are not alone. Why is it that we chose smoking to try to end our stress? We could have chosen alcohol, xanax, overeating, oversleeping, but for some reason we turned to cigarettes. We are addicts and we have finally woken up and seen that cigarettes are a false god that kill us while pretending to be our friend. I think we begin by seeing our addiction clearly. And then we think about it a lot and perhaps begin by delaying each smoke a little longer and a little longer. And at some point, we actually say "I'm just not going to hurt myself anymore. I'm putting this junkie life down and picking up my new life." It can be done. Lots have succeeded and you can, too.
