If you were to return to smoking...?

Liz, at this point I'd have to say that the balance has swung from bad days to mediocre days. ...I think that's good. :) Seriously... the threat of smoking seems pretty small right now... and frankly too big a bother to entertain. I'm solidly into the doldrums. Staying smoke-free is relatively easy. At least, it's easier than banging my head against the sure consequences of smoking. And I do believe that there's something better on the other side of the doldrums. This is not to say that I don't have joyous moments or hours. I do. But for the most part... this is the time in my quit when I'm recovering from the more intense struggle I faced earlier. Things are still a little surreal, but I'm not hurting the way I was... and it's not too much trouble to maintain my smoke-free life. As far as I'm concerned... I've made progress... and things will continue to get better. And Liz, it's mighty good to hear your voice again, too!! :) Lolly, I will indeed reach beyond those 120 days. I have to, and I want to. And it sure is good to know that you and all the others are here to cheer me on. When I decided that it was time to take a run at this again... I knew that I had to come back here. I knew the difference it would make. I knew that my course would be straighter and my struggles less overwhelming, with your help and the help of others who are going through this. So... I sure am glad that you're all here! :) This is going to be a better day because you are. Lamplighter, It's great to see you back in your 'normal' personna!! It's also great to see you as well as chat! You will definitely reach those 120 days this time around.( and a lot more!!!) You are over half way already and it must be easier now than at the start. I agree with Lizzie....it was around that time things felt a bit easier. I'm so looking forward to you feeling the amazing Freedom from this addiction. You were so instrumental at the start of my quit, and I'm watching out for you this time!!! Love Lolly. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/25/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 909 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 31,815 Amount Saved: 4,545.00 Life Gained: Days: 130 Hrs: 0 Mins: 25 Seconds: 18

LL - I found day 120 to be a big turning point - not the day itself you understand....but to me it was the beginning of the move from survival towards recovery. When the balance between good days and bad days started to swing towards good. You know, we have all missed you - it is so good to 'hear your voice' again. Pam - if you are worried about returning to smoking in 5 or 10 years time, then you probably won't! People return for a number of reasons - they were not ready in the first place/they did not understand addiction/an off-guard moment/they decided to start again ("I can just have one"). Understand what addiction is and understand the lies. Remember you have a choice. You are in control now. This is getting to be like a reunion! Lainey, I hear ya!! And I'm glad to hear that your comfort level is greater now. You've worked hard at this and you deserve to succeed... and I firmly believe that you are... and will, long term. Thanks, Rachael! Wonderful to see you! Martha, thanks! That will go well with the new life I'm working on! Pen, if I was going to bet on anyone recognising me, it would be you. You're a savvy cat! :) And it's nice to have someone call me "LL" again. Now I really do feel like I've come home. Lizzie ... Yes, it been a long trip back. It was a bad time, but it's been a couple years new, most of the damage has been undone, and in some ways life is better than ever. Now... I need to get this last pesky addiction out of the way. :) So good to see you! You, Pen, Rachael, Lolly, John... so many others. Many of you provided me with encouragement and a positive example... then. And that's more true than ever, now. So, unless something truly outrageous happens, I plan on seeing what's beyond that 120 day point. 'Cuz I really want to know. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 76 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,900 Amount Saved: $703.00 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 7 Mins: 20 Seconds: 41

An interesting feature with this new system that I just noticed is that if you change your name, all of your old posts change as well!!! With the old system, that wasn't the case... you could select to change your name and almost nobody would know (unless they tried to match your number of posts in an old post to the number of posts in a new post because that number changed in your old posts! O will admit that I've done that a few times in order to figure out who was who). But now, it's not a secret anymore!!! The old posts change too so if you change your name and your image in hopes that people won't know who you are if you slip or relapse and have to start all over, too bad! Everybody will know! Interesting, don't you think? Crave the Quit! Lamplighter! Cody - I am just so pleased to see you. I know you have fought hard to be here. My experience was that I did not know what being an addict was until I tried to quit. I also had no idea how long it would take for my body to adjust to not smoking - it took over a year....although of course, that was not withdrawal, but just coping with all the strange physical symptoms. The depression was the worst. Then there is re-educating the thinking - that was the bit that I never 'got' before, which is where the SSC therapy comes in. Understanding what addiction really means is the key for me not going back. I do not want to give up that freedom. I do not want the enslavement. Hey, those 70+ days look good on you. Lizzie ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/23/2003 Smoke-Free Days: 1489 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 22,335 Amount Saved: 6,700.50 Life Gained: Days: 148 Hrs: 22 Mins: 31 Seconds: 11

Hey LL, I had my suspicions before the photo - some people's writing style is almost like a brand! Anyway, I'm glad you are back. I did, on occasions, wonder about the outcome. I'm guessing everything is fine now because you are here and that recent photo tells a story. Congrats on 76 days and now I hope you can get back to those inspiring and informative posts that were so important around here back in 2004! All The Best Penitent d1098

A little dramatic but the verse came to mind.
...To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it. Revelation 2:17
You'll get another name later, we liked Lamplighter! ;) You've got a great quit and a great attitude going and really that is all that matters!
