Hi, Dee. I was away from a computer for a few days & just saw your post. I did indeed set a quit date, but not on purpose! The whole story is posted on the Forum for New Users if you want to see how that happened. Anyway, it was yesterday & I'm doing OK. Congrats on taking that step & stickong with the program.

Good luck Dee, I know you can do it! I quit smoking cold turkey 9 days ago. I think what you are doing to prepare yourself is a very good idea. I'm finding that the behavorial cigarettes are the hardest to give up. I'm also finding that postive-self feedback is extremly important and talking in thses support groups are very helpful in our quest in becoming NON-SMOKERS! Good luck on your journey! Fellow non-smoker.

Hi Dee! My QUIT is going to start on Friday. When I decided to quit about 3 weeks ago, cold turkey, I also felt excited but failed miserably... I have a smoke in my mouth right now. I just can't believe I let this filthy cig dictate to me when I should light up. Like when I did quit, after I would do a certain something at work, I'd say to myself, Self, time for a smoke and then it was like I had to reprogram myself and say, Hey Silly, YOU DON'T SMOKE! Gee, that was hard and it seemed like after a few days it got easier but by then, I was sneaking a smoke here and there on my off days... I should have never lit one up. I'm up for the fight though. I hate to lose and as long as air fills my lungs, IT AIN'T OVER!. I wish you the best of luck! Good going Dee. You should have plenty of time to track your habits and plan how to deal with cravings, etc.. WARNING - be very very careful about those pull and peel twizzlers. They are addictive and I think they are a big part of the reason I've gained so much weight. They've got 100 calories EACH! :gasp: We'll be here when you're ready to start. Dee, Welcome and begin to prepare for this date! Preparation is the key to a successful quit and it can help you persevere. Changing your routines is a great way to help combat this disease! Use those coping mechanisms and distract yourself with hobbies, activities, and even chores :) We are ready when you are :) Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team

Butterfly Swimmer, I am going to try "Commit". I don't have a very high dependency on nicotine and I think most of my smoking is routine. Your idea of the twizzlers sounds great !!!!! I will have to be careful of that one though because I love them and I tend to gain weight pretty easy. Will probably try the sunflower seeds and the straws. Thanks for the support

Dee, Welcome and congratulations on your decision to quit smoking! Are you using an aid or going cold turkey? Either way, we'll be here to help you get through it! Just start coming up with some coping mechanisms now... what will you do when you get a craving? Gum, hard candy, licorice, sunflower seeds, chewing ice, a straw cut to the length of a cigarette and many, many more have been used successfully here. While you are preparing for your quit, try some of these things out to find out which ones will work best for you to use in the beginning! I used Twizzler Pull n' Peel licorice and would "smoke" it like a cigarette (they have the same resistance as cigarettes). Again, figure out now what will work best for you. Also, while you are preparing, come up with a list of rewards for 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, etc... having a goal and a reward system set up is very important to helping you maintain your quit. Again, congrats on the decision to quit and welcome to the site! Crave the Quit! I finally set my quit date for Monday May 28. I shouldn't have any thing going on at that time to stress me out. I know with you all here for me, I can do this. I am trying to break some of my routine smoking like after I eat meals. I'm also working on my workbook to keep track of times I do smoke. I'm so scared and excited at the same time. I really want to kick this habit. Hey, UNHOOKED, did you ever set a start date? Dee
