Boxerfan, you're doing the exact right thing in sharing this with us and asking for some support.
You thought you knew what you could rely on through these intitial stages of your quit... you thought you had someone in your corner, fighting this battle with you... and I'm guessing that you now feel somewhat disoriented and disillusioned. Maybe a part of you even feels that your husbands return to smoking is what's 'real'... and that you're soldiering on, attempting to do something that's really very unlikely.
I hope you don't feel that, but if you do, to any extent, let me reassure you... you were never meant to destroy yourself with this addiction, and you can, and will, overcome it. You have won all the battles for almost 40 days, and you WILL win the war!!
Some of us here are living with smokers or are being exposed to smoking in other ways. I know that I am. My son sometimes smokes at home, even though he's been asked not to... but all of that is secondary. I can't allow my decision to quit... to hinge on anything or anyone. I'm smoke-free today... no matter what.
I know that your husbands return to smoking is disappointing, but chances are that he'll try to quit again. That's the way it often goes. But his relapse doesn't have to drag you down. You know his choice is making things worse for him, so let his relapse serve as a vivid reminder of what's waiting for you... if you were to relapse with him.
Do this for you. You've come this far... now go the distance. Save your own life, and become an example to your family, and your husband, that a new life is possible.
We're here for you, Boxerfan! We know what you're going through, because we're going through it too.
