Congratulations for deciding to quit! I am a Chantix quitter as well. Read as much as you can from the other Chantix quitters so you can get an idea of what it was like for them. There are quite a few here now that have quit with Chantix. I was a 3 pack a day smoker and had smoked for 34 years. Most of my days are spent behind the wheel of a car or behind a computer...so I know how you feel. For every 15 minutes of excitement at my job, there is 3 hours of paperwork to validate and justify what I did! You CAN do it. Stick close and keep us posted on how it is going! Hi Pattie, Wow, you are singing my song! Desk 8-10 hours per day, long-time smoker (40+ yrs here), chantix user, stress, boredom... are we related ??? Allow the chantix to do what it does. Me? I smoked as much and as many as I could those last few days! Chantix didn't make them taste any worse...but I still quit on my quit date. (I even had a secret stash for emergencies that I threw out at about the 2 week mark) At work I got up from my desk every time I would usually go for a cigarette, and I walked somewhere. To the ladies room, to the water cooler, to the soda machine, even outside to get some second-hand smoke (I don't recommend that one). For me, my stress ball was what kept my hand busy at my desk and even in my car. At home it was the boredom...same old routine. Before my quit date I made little changes...I made myself to go to a different room to smoke, moved my computer, anything just to change up the routine. Within a week or two after my quit date, I had moved the computer back and my routine became normal again (yes, predictable and boring), except now my house and I are both smoke-free! Read and post a lot on this site, and do what works for you. Many are afraid of that quit date, and most report that it wasn't as tough as they had expected (me included). As someone once told me, just don't smoke! It's that easy, and it's the hardest thing many of us have ever done in our life! You can do it, we can help. Good luck! Hi Pattie. Well it looks like you are really going to go through with what you have been wanting to do. I personally don't know what Chantix is, but if it helps you I'm all for it. Try not to see quitting as a death sentence, but a beginning of a wonderful new lifestyle. During your quit you will at no time be w/o a choice of what you are doing. After 50 years I gave it up, but the struggle was hard at times and now after 5 months I can't imagine smoking again. To think I was a smoker for such a long time is becoming harder to believe every day. You can do this and we will all help you. Welcome! I'm on chantix also and this is my 10th day smoke free! Chatix helps tremendously but you still have to work at it. Do the cigs taste stale or off to you? I smoked for 30 yrs so i'm really excited about coming this far! I never thought i'd be able to quit and chantix has helped me so much. HI Pattie,I used chantix myself and it is a great help.I had days myself that I was angry and irritated. The main thing is to have a good attitude about quitting, set your mind to accept that you DONOT SMOKE.If,you can do this you will succeed, this deadly habit is a mindgame, eliminate it from your mind and chantix will eliminate the rest.YOU CAN DO IT !!!!! My name is Pattie and I have been smoking for 23 years. I have never really tried to quit before so this going to be an experience. I am on Chantix and have until May 8th (my quit date) to taper my smoking. I find myself anxious and nervous about quitting, I have been trying to slow down and only smoke when I'm really needing one. I feel testy and irritable already! The sloser my quit day gets, the more I want to smoke. I sit at a desk for 10 hours a day and most of my smoking is from stress and boredom. I am needing some advice on how to stop thinking about smoking.
