I am so ashamed

17 years ago 0 1150 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
You certainly don't want your lungs mad at you. I don't think it's a matter of shame, but rather pride that you forget how long you're quit. I take that to mean that you are that far away from thinking about yourself as a smoker (old days). In the same token, that is what makes it easy for Mr. Nic to come-a-knock'n. I think you're doing great. You're not over this part b/c this part is more than a crave, it's a crave attacking you as you have your back turned trying to walk away. It's below the belt and not fair. You'll have to pull back into defense mode for a while. About your 5 hour drive tomorrow. You made it through one way to get where you are, but any ideas to make it more managable for the return trip? Changing, I think you offered all the distractions I would have used except maybe some carrots sticks, celery.. low cal foods. And for Interesting longer trip, take breaks by stoping and doing some stretching, get a soft drink one time, a snack the next.. Be positive, think about anything but the smoking, and keep telling yourself that smoking is just not an option.

Hello Interesting Your quit, normal for one that is committed to the quit. May I repeat, one that is committed to the quit. I liked to smoke while riding in the car, booked rooms with balcony and such. Part of the journey that makes you stay quit is the trigger that you avoid and tame. You told me that you have no doubt and I certainly have no doubdt. Fun distractions are in order, a swim, exploring, a walk? You name it but he safe where you go. I'm anxious to hear Interesting's response to Iamallclear's question re: how to cope with the drive home. I'm on day 5. Tomorrow night, I have to drive 1.5 hours (alone). This will be my first time driving as a non-smoker and am feeling apprehensive about it. I know my car is going to stink like smoke (it's been in a garage since before I quit), and I plan to have it thoroughly cleaned - but I'll still have that 1.5 hour drive first. Besides gum, water, & music...any other tips? Interesting, First congratulations on your 58 days, you are awesome. The car was also a trigger for me, and then the phone was next. Just last week I went through a situation that I hadn't been through without smoking. It involved the car and the phone at the same time. It was a situation I could not leave, I guess I was a little surprised that I would be thinking about cigarettes. Even though I knew that smoking was not an option, the thoughts of cigarettes stayed for several days. So no matter how many days you have on your meter something will trigger the thoughts. Have a safe trip back home... Interesting, Thanks for sharing and giving some insight. An ipod, mp3 player, disc man and if you have it, eight track, can all help with a long drive :) You have 60 days tomorrow, so take some time to plan a new reward for yourself :) Josie ______________________ The SSC Support Team.
