if, Hang in there! Don't give up! The only way to be a comfortable ex-smoker is to just get through this anyway you can and not smoke! These periods of wanting to smoke will come from time to time, no matter how long you've been smoke free... it's just that the longer you go without smoking, the less frequently these times become. So it's not abnormal for you to be feeling like this after 40 days. It's perfectly normal and you're not alone! What you need to do today is reward yourself for 40 days of hard work! Have you been rewarding yourself all along? Rewards are NOT optional!!! They are an essential part of quitting, so do NOT skip them because you think that they're not important. And if you haven't been rewarding yourself, then it's about time you did! Be good to yourself. Treat yourself to a nice hot cappacino or a bubble bath or rent a movie, make some popcorn and enjoy yourself! Or go out to eat tonight! Or go shopping and get yourself something that you've really been wanting lately. Be good to yourself and show yourself that quitting is rewarding! You're doing a great thing for yourself by quitting... show your body that by doing something special today! You deserve it! Crave the Quit! How is today going? Somewhere around 30 to 40 days yes there is a really bad time of it. It's something most of us go through and yes you can get through it. Keep in mind that this is part of the process. This is what you have to go through to get from here to there. It will pass like everything else and you will be the stronger for it. Keep hanging in there. I have personally found that after the 30-40 day experience it become much easier. When I have a day like you're having all I can do is - do something, distract myself, breathe and above all else DO NOT SMOKE! I try to accept that I am having a bad day and that it WILL pass and even if it takes all day I can get through it and not smoke! You have 40 days behind you. What a major accomplishment! Do not throw it away. My biggest mistake has always been that I think I can't get through a bad day. The truth of the matter is, I can. I have the CHOICE to not pick up. No matter what my addict brain is telling me. Hang in there. If you choose to come through this you will gain strength like you would not believe! if you please First, lets look at those stats....amazing...truly, truly amazing. You didn't get to this point by not working hard at it, and you know what...you are just around the corner from feeling sooooooo much better. You are going to break.....beak free from a terrible addiction. That is what it is. You are uncomfortable, but it is temporary. It will get better. Sounds like some anxiety happening. Maybe from getting a ticket and being angry, and focussing on those thoughts. Let it go. Nothing you can do about it...just a ticket. You quit is so much more important than some stupid ticket and the person who gave it to you. Don't give the incident so much power! The patch? Where are you at with that. I am at a patch user. It has helped me tremendously for this quit. What is bothering you about that? Need to know more. Don't stop the patch yet. OK! I agree with the advice you have received so far. Have you rewarded yourself. 40 days is awesome and you deserve a big pat on the back....from yourself. Second....you need some distraction. Find something to do. How about exercise. For my first months reward, I bought a Nintendo DS....it has turned out to be a great distraction. May not be the thing for you. Find something! You are doing great. You will get through this. The best thing you can do for yourself right now? BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can do this. I know you can. Don't let yourself down. ifyouplease, Hang in there! You are doing great....40 days is awesome!! Take a pain reliever for those body aches or maybe a nice long soak in the tub. It sounds like today needs to be a "pamper yourself" day. Go back to whatever coping tools got you through those first rough days. hold on tight to your quit...it really does get easier!
