I am currently using chantix. It has worked well for me. I am one of those hard cases that has tried just about everything wellbutrin, patches, lozenges, cold turkey, hypnosis, etc...... It took me a little longer than some but it's working. Between the medicine and this site I am doing really well and feeling well armed. Can't say I post alot but I read alot and it helps alot. Hey McCoy! I know what you mean about being around non-smokers. It makes you feel ostercised from your friends. I live in Vail colorado where its illegal to even smoke outside! You gotta be 20ft from any buildings. No one smokes in Vail. And girlfriend, smoking is tacky! And yes, people look at smokers our age as weak because everyone else who cares about themselves has already quit. When I turned 30 i promised myself I would quit because you are just asking for illness being a smoker in your 30's. I tried and tried and failed. This time though has been successful mainly because of this site and the fact that I have stopped fooling myself into believing I can control this habit. So, at age 31 I have quit smoking forever!!!! I have become someone who smells smoke on others and frowns and runs (literaly) away from smokers so as not to be tempted. I am now a snobby non-smoker and I have earned that right! Come join me McCoy its cooler than it sounds... Having smoked for 15years, there is very little chance to escape this addiction without serious wrinkles, yellow teeth, a deep raspy man voice and constant cough. So honey, now's your chance! Two mantras that helped me immensely: NOPE-not on puff ever Smoking is tacky & for teenagers (it really is)

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Mcccoy, Yay! I was just getting ready to post to remind you that you are withdrawing from nicotine even before you quit smoking while on Chantix and to assure you that it WILL get better. But, I see you already made it there! :) I am a chantix user also and am going GREAT. I do advise you get rid of *all* smoking things, if you haven't already, though. The first week of not smoking I felt so *good* and *happy* about not smoking, that I'm fairly certain that I would have smoked if cigarettes were around. I know on paper that makes zero sense, but you probably know what I mean. :) I found the cravings while on Chantix (because they do come) to be VERY manageable; they all felt kind of dulled and wrapped in cotton. More of a "I *want* a cigarette" and not an "I *need* a cigarette". I can tell you that today, which is day 29 of my quit (and started 6th week of Chantix yesterday), I don't even think of cigarettes anymore unless something specifically reminds me. And what usually reminds me is noticing I'm not thinking about cigarettes! But, really, all those times I thought I'd be panicked? In the morning when I wake up? With my coffee? After dinner? Driving? ....? Nothing. Not smoking has now worked so seamlessly into my life that I don't even notice. And I thank the Chantix for getting me to this point. I'm still on guard, because there are still things I haven't done as a "non-smoker" (bars, parties, etc.), but I have *NEVER* felt this confident in a quit and I've tried every other method before other than the antidepressants. Be proud of yourself, you're doing great! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi Carren, I am a Chantix uses also. My husband is still a smoker but not around me very often. But the Chantix has helped so much that I can pass by his carton of smokes in the cupoard and not want one. I still have a urge to smoke but nothing I can't walk away from. I know if I had just one it would be the end of the quit. No matter what meds you take to help not smoke, the biggest part is you. You have to stay in the "I will not smoke" mode. If you know what I mean. You still have to say no and try to stay away from places that you are used to smoking. You have triggers and habits. You have to change your habits. You can do this and we will help. We are here to help and get help. Hi Carren, Welcome to the SSC! I'm on Chantix too, and it's working great. When your quit date comes, you will probably have a "psychological moment" that says, well I can smoke one. Yes...you can, but....every one you smoke is just one more crave you will have to suffer with. The Chantix will keep you from wanting to smoke as bad...believe me...I quit Cold-Turkey (10 years) and it was horrible. Trust me...lay them down on your quit date. The withdrawal for me was nothing like before, very mild. The withdrawal will not take place until you are nicotine free. I am a non-smoker today and loving it thanks to the Chantix and some wonderful people here. I was a 2 1/2 pk a day....30+ yrs. For no more than you smoke...this should be a piece of cake. We know you can do it! auntdeb :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 65 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,277 Amount Saved: $308.75 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 0 Mins: 27 Seconds: 41
