Hello FreshAir and Welcome!
I think we all know that feeling of how can I get through it without my bud, we do though. Tip the scale in your favor and tell yourself that it may not be easy however I KNOW THAT I CAN DO THIS. I really want to do this, I need to do this and I AM GOING TO DO THIS. End the discussion with Nic or at least tell him to bug off.
Write down your personal reasonings for quiting, like I want to be around for my kids, wife, husband, friends. I want to feel better and I don't like having Nic have a hold on me. I want my freedom back, it costs to much.....Your support group is in place however we need you to do the doing so stick with us. You know it can be done because you did it once before for six years. I think you are ready to do this so...be positive, no I thinks, only yes I cans.
