Smoking dreams every night....

17 years ago 0 29 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Does anyone else dream of smoking every night, I mean every night. The dreams started about 2 weeks into my quit and have never stopped. Even when I don't go to bed thinking about the nicodemon... he sneaks into my dreams... any advise on how to deal with it, get rid of it... anything? Nope... I started on the patch but I work alot and I sometimes drink energy drinks to keep me going. My third week in I drank a red bull with the patch on and let me just say that they did not mix well. I pulled off my patch and never drank another red bull again. I thought I was going to die of heart failure. Since then I have been cold turkey... and alot of turkey at that:-)

In the beginning it was ok and I felt the same way... I would wake up and feel relieved however now it is getting annoying. I wake up every morning thinking about smoking and I want to move on from that. Although a hundred days seems like alot when you look at it, really I am only a little over 3 month's into my quit... I am still very much fighting this and would like to find a way to distract myself from these dreams if at all possible. I have removed smoking from my day to day, I would love to remove it from my night... Had someone tell me this once...visualize a giant cigarette and then beat the "____"out of it with a bat, your arms, whatever weapon you choose. I tried it and it feels really good even if it is a visualization. I guess a bit of therapy in doing it! Try doing this just as you go to sleep and maybe you'll have better dreams! Keep the quit! I'm not quite sure the smoking dreams can be attributed to the patch or NRT's. I have quit using every method, including Chantix this time, and I have always experienced the smoking dreams and intense and vivid dreams. Now I will admit that the patch, for some reason, intensified those dreams. Golly---I LOVED those dreams! Still have an infrequent smoking dream, but not like the first few months. Those were awesome! Jaden....these are dreams and nothing more....unless you "let" them be more? don't let them invade your waking hours and make you think 'more' about smoking.....when you awake and realize you had a dream, just take it for that and push it out of your mind. Distract yourself from dwelling on it. You know, we tend to dream the things we think of during the day?? even suggestions of thoughts have a way of turning up in our dreams. don't give this business one minute of your waking time....it will gradually leave your dreams too. I dreamed of smoking for quite a while....I would wake and sometimes almost SWEAR I could smell and taste a cigarette....my first waking thought was one of panic! Gradually I learned to just push this away...it was afterall, just a dream.....my last dream of smoking was when I was offered one and said "no thanks, I don't smoke"....I woke remembering the dream and never had another one....guess my subconscience finally caught up with what my conscience was doing! Don't LET it be a problem...and it will disappear Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1888 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 75,550 Amount Saved: $10761.6 Life Gained: Days: 249 Hrs: 2 Mins: 16 Seconds: 7

Jaden, Are you using NRT's, if so many members have advised taking it off through the night as it lessens the vivid dreams. You may also try relaxation techniques to ease yourself into sleep and wake well rested :) Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
