The Magic Ship Continues!

17 years ago 0 613 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hello, fellow travelers: I saw my doctor today because I'm SO miserable and haven't slept more than 15 minutes at a pop and everything HURTS, my head, my throat, my ears, my toenails and fingernails and well, what DOESN'T hurt? Ok, enough -- indeed I am feeling sorry for myself. Doctor said I DO have the flu and has started me on Tamiflu. By the by, fellow quitters, she said anyone who has smoked for years and done so much damage to their bodies should get a flu shot EVERY year -- she waggled her finger in my face and everything! (Do you agree, Nurse? Or is it more my advanced senior age status now that requires a flu shot?) I'll tell you this -- I never want the flu again! Fortunately, on board the Magic Ship, I am NOT contagious, so I will be joining you girls for our big Chippendale/birthday party! Can't wait! So, is there a machine on board to change $5s and $10s into $1s? LOL We'll need 'em, ladies! I'm very proud of myself that this is my first non-smoking birthday in 35 years -- it feel SO strange and SO wonderful, too! JT: You owe me nothing, darlin'! I know how easily I get confused, so fuhgeddaboutit! Let's have some fun tonight. One thing: May I please be excused from the 5:00 am roll call tomorrow (I'm sick -- cough, cough). C'mon, show me a tad sympathy here, JT! Rock on, ladies! Huh? What? Where am I? What day is it?? Well, I'm finally vertical again -- hurray!! This flu knocked me back but good! I'll be horizontal again soon, but since I'm vertical for the moment, thought I'd check in. I'm getting better, but this has been a doozy!! My shipmates are just the best! You guys threw a birthday party to remember -- those Chippendale boys are to die for, eh? Chocolate cake was delicious, Kygirl, thank you! No smokin', of course, 'cept those 55 candles on the cake put up some serious flame and smoke! Ok, so now that I'm 55, I'm willing to call myself "middle-aged". Ha! (I wish!) Think about it -- if I'm middle-aged, then I'm halfway to 110! Why not? I don't smoke, so anything's possible, right? How's that for positive thinking? FREEMOM: I'm concerned about your struggles. How can we help? I'm going to look up your other post that you mentioned. You are SO close to being able to talk about your quit in MONTHS, not days or weeks. You're doing an amazing job -- we want to help when you need it, so please holler out to us, ok? JT: I'm hoping that by tomorrow, I can start my walking again. I'll keep you posted. I want to be able to put down my mileage as well. That would make me feel like I'm doing something positive. Now, girls, there's too much worrying about chocolate around here. Chocolate is lifeblood, don't you know? It's like anything else -- moderation. Well, not smoking, there's no such thing as moderation there -- just DON'T! But with chocolate, eat small amounts and SAVOR every wonderful bite. Then go for a walk. We can find that balance, I know we can! I love you all -- thank you for the kind words, for the wonderful birthday party and for wishing me well again. Enjoy your Saturday! "THIS Discussion Has Been Closed!!!" "Uh-oh", I thought -- whas has Pat done NOW??!! That little dickens has alienated the mods somehow and they've shut down the Magic Ship!!" Whew -- what a relief to see we're still sailing (as opposed to being up a creek without a paddle)! Thank you, mods!! CAP'N: So glad you're enjoying the chocolates. It would seem that the womenfolk on board are determined to eat healthy, but that's ok, more chocolate for you and me! Now, comments were made to you about the women caddying for you. I must say I will NOT caddy for you -- I will golf WITH you, quite happily actually. Where shall we go? I've noticed some lovely golf courses here in Jamaica. FORE!!!!! You guys are all doing SO wonderfully on your quits -- I can't even keep up with those amazing stats -- I see three weeks, 31 days, etc., etc. It's just flying by, don't you think? You all will be able to join me and the others on THE BEACH in the blink of an eye, don't you know?! When you're in spittin' distance, I'll share the location with the Cap'n so we can head the ship that way! Woo hooooooo! Can't wait! Rainie, Pat, Freemom, JT -- I couldn't ask for better and kinder (and sweeter smelling) shipmates. Thank you for all you do! Now, can one of you point me to the (shudder) GYM? There IS one on board, isn't there? I will NOT give up my wine and chocolates, but perhaps just a tad bit more exercise couldn't hurt, eh? Come work out with me, then we can reward ourselves (hmmmmm, maybe more wine and chocolates? But of course!) Just remember -- smoking is not an option! If you find yourself even thinking about those nasty ol' smokes, just remind yourself that you're not a smoker, so that's not a choice. What else you got? There are a TON of good choices, as you know! Keep making 'em! Keep the faith, mon! I'm so proud of you all! LET IT BE DULY NOTED ***** This beautiful Magic Ship to Quitland is free and open to quitters one and all! No dues and very few rules. #1 Rule: There Will Be NO Smoking!! We WILL make you walk the plank should we catch you! Right now we're anchored in Jamaica for the weekend. Cap'n Mr. Magic will take requests for further destinations, all stopovers on our journey to quitland, you understand. Rainie is our founder, along with LadyCigevictor (we just call her Pat or First Mate)is our resident wit, Mr. Magic is our captain and a fine one at that. We all have some duties here on board, mine is as official greeter and presenter of wine and chocolate (what a FINE way to stay quit, eh?). JT is our most wonderful chef, especially of the pastry variety and Freemom is our amazing music director. Lady, Phil, Butterfly Swimmer and Bullseye stop by periodically to add to the levity and gaiety. BUT, there's room aplenty aboard this ship. Please come by. The Cap'n does want all to carry their own weight, so you must decide what talents you bring. Rules: No Smoking (DUH!!), you must be available for shipmates who need your help at any time and you must show kindness toward all. Benefits? Ha ha -- there are no calories in anything you eat here and we all look fabulous in anything we wear! It is indeed a MAGIC ship! So, please, welcome aboard, have some wine and chocolate, perhaps a manicure or pedicure at the spa? How about some time in our entertainment lounge? I'm certain you'll enjoy your stay with us. Hope to see you soon. Keep the faith My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 131 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,263 Amount Saved: $1048 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 5 Mins: 4 Seconds: 37

Hmmmmm, "low carb pastries"??!! Isn't that an oxymoron? Ok, ok, I'll go along with the plan for healthier eating (for now), but I'm not giving up my chocolate, don't you know?! JT, I've been trying to walk in the last couple of weeks (of course I live in rainy country, so that hasn't been easy, but I'm staying committed to it and it is getting easier on the lungs and the body each time I do it.) So, I'm in your new program (that way I can justify the continuation of wine and chocolate -- at a moderate level, of course! Cap'n seems to have a walking program involving specific numbers all worked out -- I'd like to learn more about that, if you please. So, as our new fitness leader on board the Magic Ship, please tell me where to report, when and just what you need from me. I'm rarin' to go! RAINIE: Welcome back, at least for a brief moment or two. We were getting a little worried, so I'm glad Pat kept us a little up to date. Glad you're doing ok, too bad we can't say the same about your poor daughter. MOMMOM: You asked about "mid" portions of the day as moments when you seem to crave. I think it's perfectly logical -- mid-morning and mid-afternoon is when our bodies tend to lag energy-wise and our minds get a little bored (at least for me). Look for what triggers there may be at those moments so you're not caught unaware and unprepared. Being prepared for those moments is the key in overcoming them. You are doing SO great -- congratulations! By the way, I'm not one of the NASCAR crazy girls, but I'm definitely scheduling a place onboard the copter for the Vegas trip. Save me a spot, ok? Keep the faith, all! PAT: "Choker's Hospital" -- good one! How about our next soap opera can be "Gags of our Lives"? Nonsmoker humor -- ha! (Well, to be fair, we're still new at it!) Ooh, MomMom! A talent show -- what a grand idea! As you can clearly see, this ship is LOADED with talent -- should be great fun! One problem: I have none, zero, zip, nada, not one iota. So here's my suggestion -- this Thursday the 22nd of February is my 55th birthday and will be my first birthday without smoking in 35 years! Woo hoooooo! Could you all do the talent show FOR my birthday (then I don't have to perform and can just sit back fat, sassy and happy and take it all in). That works for me -- what do you think? Cap'n: I'd also request some bright purple beads from Fat Tuesday for myself, if you please. Thank you ever so much! THREE WEEKS FOR FREEMOM!! Yay!! We're so darn proud of you! Big Party now, eh? We're all reaching so many milestones, the party will never end on board the Magic Ship, but isn't that the whole idea on the way to Quitland? You're story about the numbing agents in menthol smokes got my attention -- I smoked menthol lights for over 35 years! Thank goodness I don't drink Dr. Pepper, though. That's a little scary to think about the similarities! CAP'N: Absolutely we're forcing rum on to you -- now that you've claimed we'll hear some awesome blues on the harmonica -- I wouldn't miss that for anything! (No harmonicas allowed on the golf course, though.) PAT: "As The Addiction Churns" -- I LOVE it -- you DO come up with some good soap opera titles for us. That's the life of a quitter, though, isn't it? Always a soap opera! So how was shopping today with JT and Freemom? What goodies are you three bringing on board -- anything you can share? MOMMOM: Good job on dumping your secret stash -- do you feel good about it? I hope you do -- don't be scared. Feel empowered, because that's exactly what you just did, empower yourself. Way to go! Oh, and thank you for bringing the crazy NASCAR girls back to the ship safe and sound. We do so appreciate having you with us. On to Barbados! Alright! Keep the faith Congrats on your 3 weeks, Freemom! And thanks for such great tunes -- you're the bestest Music Director ever! Hey, Kygirl: Welcome, welcome! Glad to have you onboard -- we can always use a few more crazy non-smokers! What's your pleasure in wine and cbocolate and I will see that you have all you need (you understand that this goes far beyond one's desire, right? One has a NEED for wine and chocolate!). Now that you're on board, you must begin thinking about a task you can provide, a role you can serve on the Magic Ship. The Cap'n is very strict about slackers, don't you know?! So, you have a good sense of our roles here -- think about any special talents you bring that would be useful for your shipmates. I know you'll come up with something grand! Can't wait to hear. In the meantime, WAY TO GO on what I know has been a difficult first two weeks as a nonsmoker. You're kicking some serious ash now! Let your shipmates know how we can help and we'll be all over it! Well, shame on me! My only real job here is to greet newcomers with wine and chocolate. I guess I just got so excited at the idea of our own helicopter pilot -- I spaced out! So, what shall it be for you? A nice merlot or Pinot Noir, perhaps? Or a chardonnay? Personally, I prefer my dark chocolates with red wine, but I'm here to serve!
