I'm glad you guys are continuing this thread occasionally. I am not to the point where I am worried about the end of the Chantix days...yet... I feel great about the quit right now, and I will do the full 12 weeks and then decide whether to go further. I'll be reading this post again as the time gets closer. Sweet T, you are a week ahead of me, so I'll be watching for your post. Good luck. Hi Sweet T. I'm on chantix too and occasionally feel a bit queasy after taking it - usu more so in evening than morning. But I'm careful to take it after a meal and with a full 8 oz of water as they recommend. As for stopping it early - I recall posts from people who stopped it early and then found their cravings were really bad and maybe they slipped. Not sure about that part. Let us know how it goes and if you feel you need it, get back on board! Hi Everyone, Sweet T, I understand about the sick feeling. I experienced it also with Chantix. I started taking my night time medication right before I was headed to bed. I then just stopped taking it after three weeks. I did have a few rough days, but I made it through. I have a very strong well to make this quit successful. So far, so great :) Two months and going strong. However, please consult with your physician. You have had two successful weeks. Don't do anything to risk that. I battled with myself about feeling sick or smoking. I decided I would rather feel sick. Have a great evening. Hi All... I stopped my Chantix about three days ago...and guess what happened...."nothing". So if you are having fears of what if?....Don't worry! I didn't wake up looking for the lighter and the cigaretts. I didn't reach for the cigs after I ate. I didn't get up after the funeral director said we could say our good byes to my Mother and look for the nearest exit to light a cigarett in the cold and the rain. The Chantix was a blessing for me. Sweet T and MomMom, It may be timing when to take it...I take my 1st pill around 7 am "After I have something in my stomache" (usually an oatmeal breakfast bar...or a Banana)and the evening dose is taken "Right After Dinner" 7 pm note: I have had a little nausea...at first...but it went away when I found my system of timing to take it. Soda Crackers help with this. About Stopping the Chantix: I have read some post of our older members stopping. They experience some edginesss for a few days and then they were fine. However...I think also that they remained on the med for the full 12 weeks. Better check with your DR before stopping though. auntdeb :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 50 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,523 Amount Saved: $237.5 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 22 Mins: 38 Seconds: 26

Yes, AuntDeb, that was me who posted that. I did take the Chantix for the full 12 weeks and I took it at the prescribed dosages throughout. I never did have any nausea, though, no problems with that whatsoever. When I finished the 12 weeks, I did feel very edgy and tense for a couple of weeks (BUT it did not tempt me to smoke!). I just didn't feel comfortable and thought maybe I'd go back on the Chantix. It all eased up though and I'm doing just great now. I hope that helps you, Sweet T! Hi Sweet T, Another successful Chantix quitter here! I had done approximately 18 weeks of Chantix before tapering off the meds 3 weeks ago. I too had heard some horror stories of stopping the Chantix abruptly. But from my experience, there was no horror! Thank goodness! But if you think you are ready to stop taking the drug, please contact your physician. I think that the extra time on the meds gave me a good length of time to learn lots of new healthy habits. I've done fine since tapering off the meds but everyone is different. You may want to talk to your doctor about the excess nausea you are experiencing. Just like everything else, Chantix isn't for everyone. Here's hoping you find what works for you! I must have missed the horror stories about quitting abruptly. I'm glad I did, I might have been reluctant about stopping. I also understand that 24 weeks is recommended especially for long term smokers. I would have, but I had already quit with patches BEFORE starting the Chantix. I took Chantix with a 5 mg patch for a week and then on day 8, just Chantix. I already had about 50 days, but felt myself spiraling, just as I had in a previous quit with NRT...In quitting like I did, I can tell you by experience that the cravings were literally cut in half when I started Chantix and I was thankful to get rid of the nicotine. Good luck to all! Keep the quit! I just stopped completely after the full 12 weeks. Like I said, the only side-effects from going off was a little edgy and tearful for a couple of days. I almost asked for another 'script, just to be safe (I had failed so many times before), but did not. However, If you are worried about that, you might take your last weekly pack and spread it out over two weeks with just one in the AM.(?) Just a thought... I had to learn the 'timing' of taking it also, to avoid the tummy upset. I took it immediately following a meal with a full glass of water. Taking it right before eating was a disaster! I strongly recommend taking the full 12 weeks for the same reasons I stated back in February. I won't consider myself 'safely' quit until all these smoking thoughts cease. Don't get me wrong, the thoughts are manageable and infrequent, but still there. Also, I have failed so much and deep into quits before that I just don't trust myself. However, this has been my longest quit and I have been without any aids that I think I got it right! :) I credit Chantix and FDA approval for my quitting. NRT's just were not cutting it (I even ordered different strength patches from New Zealand and did a US/NZ combo quit! LOL) and I was too big a coward to go 'naked'/cold turkey..... All I can say is, keep the quit. If ever an aid that is as close to 'magic' as possible....it is Chantix.
